ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (SMU) – Chelsea Francis and Chika Iwuamadi both set school records as Mustang track and field competed at this weekend's MLK Jr. Invitational from the Albuquerque Convention Center.
 
Chelsea Francis had an outstanding weekend in two separate events. Francis started the two-day event with a third-place finish in the 200 meter with a time of 23.63 (23.70). This was the fastest time run by an American Conference runner this season. 
 
Francis repeated the feat on Saturday with a time of 7.25 (7.27) in the 60 meter dash, again the fastest time in the conference. This topped the SMU record in the 60m set by Stephanie Kalu. Francis now has the ninth fastest time in the nation this season for the 60m. 
 
Freshman Chika Iwuamadi ran a 53.61 in the 400m in just her second meet as a collegiate athlete. Iwuamadi's time was easily the best time by an AAC runner and puts her 13^th in the nation.
 
Senior Nicole Iloanya shot to the top of the American's leaderboard with her performance in the triple jump. The transfer from San Jose Sate recorded a distance of 12.84, good for first at the event. Illoyana ranks as tied for 13^th in the nation.
 
In the weight throw, a pair of Mustangs set PRs in Daniella Murchison and Kennedy Godsey. Their distances 16.16 and 16.03 placed them seventh and eighth respectively.

SMU had a total of seven athletes compete in the 200m along with Francis. Jordanae Scott went sub-25 with her 24.71 time while Ashton Woods (24.71) and Alexis Center  (25.22) were not to far behind. 
 
The Mustangs return to the track next weekend as they take the trip to Houston to compete  in the Houston Invitational which runs Friday through Saturday.
