SMU women's tennis heads to Palo Alto, Calif., this weekend for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend hosted by Stanford. The Mustangs will take on Washington State on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. CT inside Taube Family Tennis Stadium. SMU will face either No. 1 Stanford or St. Mary's at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27 depending on Saturday's results.
SMU started the dual season 0-2, but both matches were hard-fought battles against Big 12 opponents. On Jan. 17, the Mustangs fell to Texas Tech 4-3 after winning the first three points of the match. On Jan. 19, SMU split the singles matches with Oklahoma but the Sooners prevailed, 4-3. SMU opened the spring by hosting Metroplex Mania, where it won 21 singles and 10 doubles matches across four days of competition.
Senior
Vivienne Kulicke won her No. 2 singles match against Oklahoma's Oleksandra Korashvili, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 to improve her team-best singles record to 12-4 this season. Senior

Tiffany Hollebeck has won four straight doubles matches and holds a team-best 5-1 record this season. Traxler has 11 doubles wins this year, a team high.
Washington State is 5-0 on the year, most recently beating Michigan State 4-1 in a neutral site match at Missoula, Mont. The Cougars are led by Michaela Bayerlova, who is No. 83 in the ITA singles rankings. This is the first ever meeting between SMU and Washington State.
Stanford is the reigning NCAA Champion and enters the weekend ranked No. 1 in the country. These will be the first dual matches of the season for the Cardinal. Stanford has four players ranked by the ITA in singles (No. 16 Emily Arbuthnott, No. 38 Emma Higuchi, No. 51 Janice Shin, No. 103 Michaela Gordon) and two pairs ranked in doubles (No. 7 Kimberly Yee/Carolina Lampl and No. 13 Arbuthnott/Gordon). The Cardinal hold a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series against SMU.
This will also be the first dual competition for St. Mary's. The Gaels are led by Mariia Kozyreva, who is ranked No. 62 in singles by the ITA. SMU leads the all-time series against St. Mary's 2-0, with the most recent win coming on March 28, 2010 when the Mustangs won 7-0.
