McLaughlin Named One Of 10 Finalists For Senior CLASS Award

Oct 17

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (SMU)Garrett McLaughlin has been named one of ten finalists for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, given annually to the nation's top senior student-athlete that excels on and off the field.

The 20 total NCAA men's and women's soccer finalists were chosen from 30 men's and 30 women's finalists. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans will be able to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through November 18, 2019. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner.

McLaughlin has led the Mustangs to a 10-0-1 start this season, with nine goals and two assists this season.

A 2018 MAC Hermann candidate, McLaughlin's on-field success has been some of the best in the country since he came to the Hilltop. His 30 career goals are tied for the seventh most among all active NCAA D1 student-athletes, and his nine 2019 goals are the second most in the AAC.

Off the field, McLaughlin has succeeded in the classroom and in the community. In the summer of 2018, McLaughlin volunteered at Energy Assist Foundation's summer camp for youth in grades 3-9. Energy Assist Foundation is the non-profit for Energy FC of the USL and McLaughlin helped coach and mentor over 100 of Oklahoma's youth at the camp.

The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2019 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup championships later this fall.
