Box Score DALLAS (SMU) – Hannah Jacobs scored 12 kills, and
Meryn Kennedy posted seven blocks, to lead SMU to a 3-0 win against Temple (25-19, 25-16, 25-20) in Moody Coliseum Friday night. With the win, the Mustangs improved to 7-1 at home, 12-5 overall and 5-2 in the American Athletic Conference.
SMU hit .315 with 42 kills. Temple (10-8, 1-6 The American) finished with 41 kills, but hit just .154. The Mustangs posted 10.5 blocks and tallied 49 digs.
Rachel Woulfe had five blocks and scored eight kills, and freshman
Mekenzi Heckmann finished with eight kills and a team-best .467 attack percentage with just one error.
Lily Heim accounted for 35 of SMU's 39 assists, and
Montana Watts had a match-high 12 digs. Freshman
Alex Glover scored five kills with no errors for a .417 attack percentage. Kennedy hit .438, giving SMU three attackers above .400, all with at least five kills.
SMU ended the match with a 25-20 win in the third set. With the score tied, 11-11, SMU scored four straight. Temple cut the lead to two, 21-19, but SMU went on a 4-1 run to win the set. A 25-16 win in the second set kept SMU in the lead for the match.
The Mustangs trailed 12-9 midway through the first set, but came back to take a 15-13 lead. SMU stretched the advantage to five, 20-15, and went on to win 25-19.
SMU faces Connecticut at home Sunday at 1 p.m. The contest is the annual Pink Match, an initiative designed to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. All donations go directly to the American Cancer Society in Dallas, and fans are encouraged to wear pink.
