RECORD BOOK PERFORMANCES
Two Mustangs are looking to land at the top of individual career records lists at the end of the season. Senior Allie Thornton's golden goal at Oklahoma was her fourth game-winning goal for the season and 11th total in her career. She is now tied for fourth on the all-time game-winning goals list. Sophomore Celiana Torres is working her way up the individual career record list for assists per game. Her five assists this season put her at .444 per game for her career and a sixth place spot on the all-time list.
DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE
The Mustangs have only allowed two first-half goals all season. Throughout ten games, SMU's backline has only allowed 42 shots on goal, 33 of which have been saved. Five opponents have been shutout in SMU's 2019 campaign.
SERIES HISTORY
The Mustangs and the Bulls have faced off every season for the past six years, meeting twice in 2017, once in the regular season and once in the conference tournament. Last year's matchup ended with a 1-5 win for USF in Tampa, Fla.
SCOUTING USF
USF has started 7-3-0 on the season, with two wins and one loss in conference play. The loss came from AAC front-runner, Memphis. The Bulls have been ranked as high as No. 22 this season and have been receiving votes for the past two weeks. USF added 13 newcomers to their roster for 2019 and returned 10 starters including Evelyne Viens, who leads the Bulls in goal and shot categories and was a unanimous selection to the preseason all-conference team.
RETURNING MUSTANGS
Twenty Mustangs are returning to the pitch for the 2019 season, for a total of eight seniors, five juniors and seven sophomores. As a team in 2018, the Mustangs finished with a 10-6-2 overall record and a 5-4 conference record, to give them a fifth place conference finish. The 2019 Mustang offense has been led by returners Allie Thornton, Hannah Allred and Celiana Torres. Thornton and Allred lead the team in four categories including goals and both shot columns. Torres leads in assists with six on the season. Courtney Sebazco, Katia Novi and Hailey Bishop have also had strong showings for SMU's offense. The Mustangs' backline is anchored by returners Katharine Herron, Brooke Golik and Mary Meehan, who have been crucial in SMU's five shutouts.
NEW MUSTANG TALENT
SMU added one transfer and five freshmen to its roster for the 2019 season. Junior Jewel Boland, a transfer from Highline College, has been a big part of SMU's offense, playing in all ten matches and tallying three goals, 22 shots, eight on goal and two assists. Tatum Sutherland hails from Cleburne, Texas and has been SMU's starter in goal this season. She has appeared in all ten matches and earned five clean sheets with 29 saves. Wayny Balata, a midfielder from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, has made an appearance in nine matches with seven shots, one on goal and an assist. Serena Eboh, a Southlake, Texas native, has helped the Mustangs' backline in eight matches and has had three shots of her own. Sadie Wintergalen joins SMU as a forward from Phoenix, Ariz. and has seen playing time in three matches this season. Maddie Hansen, a forward from Allen, Texas, has not seen any playing time this season due to an injury. She spent most of her club soccer time with Sting, where she was captain and often led the team in goals. She also earned a US Soccer Training invite from 2012-15.

SMU dropped the conference opener to UCF on Thursday night at Westcott Field when the Knights converted a penalty kick to clinch a 2-1 win. Jewel Boland scored the Mustangs' lone goal when she headed the ball across the goal line on a corner kick from Celiana Torres in the 53rd minute.
COMING UP
SMU will travel to Temple and Connecticut for the first road trip of conference play, taking on Temple Thursday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. and Connecticut on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 12 p.m. CT.
