Meet The Freshmen: Sadie Wintergalen
Oct 9 | Women's Soccer
The SMU women's soccer team welcomed five freshmen into the Mustang family, adding Wayny Balata, Serena Eboh, Maddie Hansen, Tatum Sutherland and Sadie Wintergalen. Wintergalen, a Phoenix, Ariz. native, is the fourth player in the series introducing fans to these five new Mustangs.
Â
Wintergalen (No. 15) has seen playing time with the Mustangs in three matches in 2019. The forward appeared in matches against Texas Southern, Northern Colorado and Oklahoma State, helping the Mustang offense secure two wins and a tie.
Before joining the Mustangs, Wintergalen spent her high school career playing with Xavier College Prep in Phoenix and played club with the Phoenix Rising FC. She was named to the Arizona ODP All-Tournament Team in 2016 and was a regional ODP invitee. She was also selected to the 2016 Arizona State Cup Best XI in May of 2016. Wintergalen spent two seasons competing for her school, landing an AIA All-First Team selection in 2016. More recently, Sadie played with the Scottsdale Blackhawks as they earned a spot in the 2018 US Youth Soccer National Championship.
Why I Chose SMU:Â I thought the campus was beautiful and this is a great soccer program. The coaches and the girls on team were all so welcoming and I felt very comfortable from the first time I visited.
My favorite part of SMU/Dallas so far:Â There's lots of good food around here and I've loved my soccer experience so far, especially all the friends I've made.
Something I'd like for SMU fans to know about me:Â I am a nice person.
My biggest strengths as a soccer player: My speed and crossing balls into the box.
If not soccer, what sport/activity would you be doing instead? I would be on Master Chef.
Anticipated Major: Maybe education? I'm not really sure yet.
Three Words that Describe Me:Â Thoughtful, Sensitive, Sarcastic
What do you like to do in your free time? I usually play with my dog, but I can't do that here so I look at pictures of her a lot. I take the occasional nap and I'm currently watching Bachelor in Paradise.
Favorite Food:Â Peanut Butter
Favorite Artist: My music taste ranges widely, but my two favorite artists at the moment are Morgan Wallen and Tame Impala.
Favorite TV Show:Â Game of Thrones and The Office
Favorite Movie:Â Toy Story 3
Favorite Professional Athlete: Zlatan Ibrahimović
Favorite Quote:Â "Real eyes realize real lies" -Anonymous
Pre-game Superstition/Ritual:Â I have to put my cleats on before my shin guards and it has to be the right cleat first, then the right shin guard.
Â
Favorite Sports to Watch Other Than Soccer:Â Figure Skating
Â
Job I'd Like Outside of Soccer:Â I've thought about going into primary education, so teaching at the elementary school level.
