DALLAS (SMU) – The postseason honors continue for senior forward
Garrett McLaughlin, who was named to the United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American Scholar, the organization announced on Monday. McLaughlin becomes the third Mustang all-time to earn first team honors, joining
Jordan Cano (2017) and Diego de Almeida (2011).
The Scholar All-American teams recognize student-athletes who have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, start more than 50 percent of games, are an elite player supported by playing honors and are a junior or above in athletic standing.
McLaughlin will graduate this fall with a degree in Applied Physiology and Sport Management and with a 3.35 GPA. This is his first appearance on the United Soccer Coaches' Scholar All-American list and comes after earning a spot on the All-West Region Team earlier this month.
During the 2019 season, the OKC native led the team on offense with 16 goals, including a nation-best 7 game-winners. Along with honors from United Soccer Coaches, McLaughlin was named a second team All-American by College Soccer News and first team All-AAC for his output this year.
