No. 39 SMU women's tennis wraps up a busy weekend by hosting the No. 32 Kentucky Wildcats for a noon match at the SMU Tennis Complex on Sunday, Feb. 24.
The Mustangs were in Kansas for a pair of road matches earlier this week, dropping 4-3 decisions to both Kansas State on Thursday, Feb. 21 and Wichita State on Friday, Feb. 22.
On Wednesday, SMU landed in the Oracle/ITA Division I Women's Rankings for the first time this season, checking in at No. 39. The Mustangs also had individual players ranked for the first time this year, with seniors
Liza Buss and
Vivienne Kulicke earning the No. 90 and No. 117 singles spots, respectively. The pair of Buss and senior
Anzhelika Shapovalova rank No. 55 nationally in doubles.
Shapovalova has the best singles win percentage on the team, holding a 10-1 record. She has won six straight matches.
Kentucky sits at No. 32 in the national team rankings, while senior Justina Mikulskyte is ranked No. 46 in singles. Mikulskyte and fellow Lithuanian Akvile Parazinskaite form the Wildcats' 50th-ranked doubles team. Kentucky is on a four-match win streak, most recently defeating Baylor on Feb. 22, 5-2.
This is the first ever meeting between SMU and Kentucky.
