Van Impe Named ACC Freshman of the Year, Two Mustangs Earn All-ACC Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (SMU/theACC.org) – SMU women's tennis player Amelie Van Impe has been named the ACC Freshman of the Year in honors announced Thursday by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Additionally, Van Impe earned a spot on the All-ACC Singles First Team, while junior Caroline McGinley and Van Impe were named to the All-ACC Doubles Second Team.

The honors mark the first postseason recognition for the program since joining the ACC in 2024.

Van Impe is the third player in program history to be named conference Freshman of the Year and the first since Hatamoza Shahzoda earned the honor in the CUSA in 2010.

Van Impe has moved up to a season-best No. 21 ITA singles ranking this week with a 13-3 overall record this season. Her current ranking is the highest by a SMU women's tennis athlete since the 2011 season.

The Belgium native went 7-2 in conference play, including a win over then ITA No. 1 and ACC Player of the Year Reese Brantmeier. Van Impe has five total wins over ranked players this spring and enters NCAA Championship play on a seven-match singles winning streak.

Van Impe has also been ranked as high as No. 10 in the ITA doubles rankings alongside Caroline McGinley. The tandem went 15-2 in dual match play and started the spring 11-0. Van Impe and McGinley have five ranked doubles wins this season, including a victory over then-No. 3-ranked Melodie Collard and Vivian Yang, who earned first-team honors by the league's coaches.

The No. 25 Mustangs will learn their postseason fate on Monday, April 27, when the 2026 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship Selection Show streams live on NCAA.com at 3:30 p.m. CT.
