SMU women's tennis travels to College Station, Texas, Wednesday, Feb. 27 to face No. 24 Texas A&M at noon from the Mitchell Tennis Center. The match is a make-up of the Feb. 8 match that was postponed due to weather.
Seniors Liza Buss and Vivienne Kulicke rank No. 90 and 117, respectively, in the country in singles. The duo of Buss and senior Anzhelika Shapovalova are the 55th-ranked doubles team in the nation.
Shapovalova is on a team-best seven-match win streak, most recently defeating Kentucky's Akvile Parazinskaite 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles on Feb. 24. She holds a team-best 11-1 singles record this season, including 9-1 in dual play and 2-0 against American Athletic Conference opponents.
Texas A&M has won three straight matches and sits at No. 24 in the Oralce/ITA Division I Women's Rankings with an 11-1 record. The Aggies' lone loss this year came to Illinois, who is currently ranked No. 26. On Feb. 17, Texas A&M defeated Oklahoma, who is now ranked No. 28, 5-2. Freshman Jayci Goldsmith, who holds a team-best 20-3 singles record, is ranked No. 86 in the country. Freshmen Renee McBryde and Katya Townsend make up the 52nd-ranked doubles pair in the country.
The Mustangs are looking to break a three-match losing streak after having won their first three matches in February. Texas A&M holds a 6-3 advantage in the all-time series against SMU, with the last Mustang win coming on May 14, 2011.
