RESULTS
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (SMU) – SMU track and field completed competition at the Arkansas Spring Invitational on Saturday with the Mustangs finishing on top in four events.
The Mustangs made the most of the soggy conditions at Arkansas' John McDonnell Field.
Cassie Ackemann,
Hannah Miller and
Madison Pyle all took home top spots during the second outdoor event of the season while SMU also finished first in the 4x400.
Due to the poor conditions a few of the field events were moved indoor including the women's high jump. Sophomore
Cassie Ackemann matched her best mark of the season at 1.70, good for a first-place finish. Her season best is second in the AAC on the year and 36
th in the country.
The Mustangs ran 1-2-4 in the 400-meter hurdles. Pyle put up the second fastest time in the American this season running a 1:01.64.
Ashton Woods and
Jacy Sparks were not far behind with their times putting them in second and fourth respectively.
Brooke Shepherd would come in eighth with a 1:06.63 time.
Woods had the Mustangs top time in the 100 hurdles earlier in the day, The sophomore finished with a time of 14.88, .12 seconds off her best mark of the season.
Miller won her second event of the season in as many races with a victory in the 3000-meter. Miller, the meet record holder, defended her 2018 first-place finish with Saturday's time of 9:47.37.
Anneke Grogan was the next finisher behind Miller, coming in second with a time of 10:02.11.
Robin Montemayor set a personal record with a time of 10:45.17. Freshman
Olivia Lackner saw her first outdoor action competing in the 1500 and 3000.
Grogan would run the 1500 later less than an hour after the 3000. Grogan recorded a time of 4:49.23 in the event, five seconds off her career best.
Chika Iwuamadi ran a 24.94 in the 200 meter, good for fifth place in a very strong field.
Olivia Mars ran her first collegiate 200 and came in 21st.
Atipa Mabonga was participated in a pair of events, running in 100 meter and finishing in 8 th in the long jump. Multi-athlete Oivia Witt ran in the 100 meter hurdles while also competing in the shot put and the long jump, three of her seven Heptathlon events.
The Mustangs were the champions of the 4x400, the meet's final event. The combo of Woods, Francis, Pyle and Iwuamadi finished in a time of 4:45.35.
In the discus,
Daniella Murchison improved on her 2019 mark with a distance of 36.30, good for sixth place. She finished second in the shot put after recording a 13.03.
Kennedy Godsey would come in 10th and
Olivia Witt in 16th.
The Mustangs are next in action this upcoming week with three concurrent meets. Instate, The Texas Relays (Austin) and Bobcat Invitational (San Marcos) run Wednesday through Saturday. In California, the Stanford Invite will be held on Friday and Saturday.
