
Miller, Ojstersek and Francis Highlight Mustangs' Three-Meet Weekend

DALLAS (SMU) - The Mustangs completed a successful weekend across three different meets highlighted by Hannah Miller's second-best SMU 10,000 at the Stanford Invite and Chelsea Francis' 100-meter performances against the elite field at the Texas Relays.
Miller and Svenja Ojstersek were the lone Mustangs representing SMU out west at the Stanford Invite. In the 10,000m late Friday night, Miller recorded a personal record (PR) and the second-fastest mark in program history with a time of 33:23.89, easily winning the heat. Svenja took off a minute of her personal mark with another masterful time of 33:51.97.
Six Mustangs qualified for a chance to compete at the Texas Relays, one of the coveted destinations of the Outdoor calendar. The Relays were hosted by the University of Texas and ran Wednesday through Saturday. Francis punched her ticket to the finals in the 100 meters by running an 11.58 in the prelims, eighth overall. Anneke Grogan raced in the 5000 meter and recorded a time of 17:58.13, good for 19th.
Both Ashton Woods and Madison Pyle qualified for the 400 hurdles. Woods set a PR with a 1:02.05 and Pyle ran a 1:02.09. They finished right behind one another in the standings at 28th and 29th. Nicole Iloanya competed in the triple jump. The conference leader in that event recorded a distance of 12.48m and finished in fifth. Cassie Ackemann's top 2019 height of 1.70m in the high jump earned her a spot in Austin as well.
Over in San Marcos at the Bobcat Invitational, several Mustangs recorded PRs across the three-day event.
Olivia Witt competed in the Mustangs' first heptathlon finishing with a score of 4062. She recorded PRs in four of seven events. Witt also competed in saturday's javelin apart from the heptathlon, throwing a long of 34.30.
In the other throwing events, Daniella Murchison led the Mustangs with a 12th-place finish in the shot put, and the top SMU mark in the discus. Kennedy Godsey led the way in the hammer with a 43.52 recorded distance, Godsey also set a PR in the discus. Dareth Douglass topped her previous best in the discus and the hammer.
Freshman Chika Iwuamadi brought home a second-place finish in the 400-meter with a time of 54.94, good for fifth in the conference. Olivia Mars ran her first 400-meter in the event.
Atipa Mabonga excelled in the long jump, just eclipsing her career best with a distance of 5.57. The next day, Mabonga finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 12.57. Ackemann also competed recording her first collegiate triple jump mark.
Grogan also represented in San Marcos, running a personal best 4:38.57 in the 1500, good for seventh place.
Robin Montemayor and Olivia Lackner both recorded PRs in both the 800 and the 5000. Montemayor's 5000 gave her a top-10 finish.
In the final event of the weekend, the 4x400 team of Francis, Woods, Pyle and Shepherd ran a 3:53.03, good for a second-place finish.
