Mustangs Face Tulsa At Noon On Sunday

SMU women's tennis returns to their home court on Sunday to take on Tulsa in a noon matchup.
 
The Mustangs are winners of three of four with the lone blemish coming in a 5-2 road loss to TCU. Last weekend, the Mustangs outscored their opponents 20-1 with a win over Dartmouth and a pair of Sunday sweeps against Northwestern State and Abilene Christian.
 
-Senior Liza Buss is ranked at No. 114 in the latest edition of the ITA rankings. Buss holds an 8-8 dual match record and has five ranked wins in the 2018-19 season
 
-Anzhelika Shapovalova leads SMU on the season with 13 spring victories behind a 13-5 record
 
-Tiffany Hollebeck and Vivienne Kulicke have both fared well recently for the Mustangs winning their last three singles matches.
 
-Hollebeck and Karina Traxler form the Mustangs winningest doubles duo. The pair has a 9-1 record in the Spring.
 
The 2019 schedule for the Mustangs has been full of elite programs. Of the first 17 matches they've played, 10 came against teams currently ranked in the ITA top 50. In the seven non-ranked matchups, the Mustangs have five sweeps and one 6-1 victory.
 
ABOUT TULSA
 
The Golden Hurricane hold an 11-8 record during the 2019 spring campaign and a 0-3 record against American Conference opponents. All eight Tulsa losses have come to ranked teams though TU has yet to top a ranked opponent. Last week the Golden Hurricane traveled to Florida for an AAC double dip, losing a close match to No. 45 USF, 4-3, before falling 6-1 to No. 26 UCF. Tulsa was in action on Saturday at the SMU Tennis Complex as they met North Texas in a match that had been moved to Dallas because of rain. The Golden Hurricane are led by Matina Okalova who is ranked No. 98 by the ITA. Okalova and Vera Ploner combine to form the 14th-ranked doubles tandem in the country.
 
SERIES HISTORY
 
The Golden Hurricane lead the all-time series with the Mustangs, 15-11 and have won three consecutive matches. The two conference opponents haven't faced off since 2016 when Tulsa swept the Mustangs, 4-0. The Mustangs hold a 5-4 record when facing Tulsa in Dallas.
