SMU visits [12/12] Houston on Thursday for an ESPN-televised match. It is the first of two road games in the final week of the regular season. SMU plays at USF on Sunday before heading to Memphis for the Air Force Reserve American Athletic Conference Championship that begins on March 14.

SMU fell 69-58 to then [21/17] Houston in the first meeting in Dallas on Jan. 16. Jimmy Whitt Jr. led the Mustangs with 20 points, six rebounds and six assists in that matchup. Ethan Chargois had 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Senior Jarrey Foster played just four minutes. Foster did not return until the Mustangs' Senior Day game on Sunday, a 67-55 loss to Wichita State. While Foster was back, Whitt missed the game with a shoulder injury. Before Sunday's game, Foster, Nat Dixon, Jahmal McMurray and James Pyle were honored.

SMU has five wins over ranked teams under third-year Head Coach Tim Jankovich. Two of those are at Moody Coliseum, two at neutral sites and a road game at then [7/4] Wichita State on Jan. 17, 2018 (83-78).

LAST GAME (L, 67-55 vs Wichita State on March 3): DALLAS (AP) -- Markis McDuffie had 15 points and nine rebounds as Wichita State defeated SMU 67-55 on Sunday. Dexter Dennis had 12 points and eight rebounds for Wichita State (15-13, 8-8 American Athletic Conference). Jamarius Burton added 10 points. Erik Stevenson had six assists for the visitors. Feron Hunt had 14 points for the Mustangs (13-15, 5-11). Jahmal McMurray added 13 points. Ethan Chargois had 13 points and eight rebounds. The Shockers improve to 2-0 against the Mustangs on the season. Wichita State defeated SMU 85-83 on Jan. 30. Wichita State plays East Carolina at home on Tuesday.

THE SERIES VS. HOUSTON (32-51) (30-51+): The Mustangs have won five of the last nine meetings since the 2014-15 season. SMU swept the 2014-15 and 2016-17 seasons, was swept by UH last season and the teams split in 2015-16. The teams spent 21 years together in the Southwest Conference (1975-1996) and eight as C-USA opponents (2005-2013) before moving to The American. Houston held a 28-14 advantage in the SWC and a 12-3 margin in C-USA games. Since joining the American Athletic Conference, SMU leads the series 6-1, with its only loss at Houston. SMU and Houston are tied 6-6 in tournament play, with SMU leading 2-1 in NCAA Tournament play. The Mustangs went 4-3 in SWC Tournament play, before Houston managed a 0-1 record in the C-USA Tournament. Since joining the AAC, Houston is 0-1 in The American Tournament. The two met in the last SWC Tournament at Reunion Arena in Dallas with SMU notching a 62-57 win over the Cougars in 1996. The Ponies won NCAA Regional matchups in 1956 and 1965, but lost in 1967. The eighth-ranked Mustangs won 89-76 over 17th-ranked Houston in the 1956 NCAA Tournament. SMU eventually advanced to the 1956 Final Four. (+30-51 officially, +9-26 officially at home).

LAST MEETING VS. HOUSTON (L, 69-58 vs Houston on Jan. 16): DALLAS (AP) -- Corey Davis Jr. scored 20 points and Armoni Brooks added 19 with five 3-pointers as No. 21 Houston led throughout in a 69-58 win at SMU on Wednesday night. Davis hit a 3-pointer for the game's first points, and the Cougars (17-1, 4-1 American Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 12-4 lead after Brooks made three early 3s. Houston led 31-22 at halftime after Brooks buried a long straightaway 3 just before the break. Jimmy Whitt Jr. had 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting for SMU (11-6, 3-2), which played most of the game without senior guard Jarrey Foster (sprained left knee). Houston coach Kelvin Sampson got his 600th career win in 30 seasons, and his 100th victory in five seasons with the Cougars. Sampson, who has a 600-319 overall record, previously coached at Indiana, Oklahoma, Washington State and Montana Tech. Davis scored 15 points in the second half, when Houston built a 17-point lead. The Mustangs cut the deficit to nine before Houston worked the shot clock down and Brooks hit a long 3 from the left wing to make it 67-55 with 1:47 left. Fabian White Jr. added 11 points for Houston. Isiaha Mike had 15 points for SMU and Jahmal McMurray scored 11. Ethan Chargois had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. The Mustangs had won nine of their previous 11 games. ... Foster played only four minutes before leaving the game. He missed the second half of last season and the first six games this season after an ACL injury. Jankovich said Foster tweaked his knee and will have tests on Thursday.

UP NEXT: The Mustangs close the regular-season on the road at USF on Sunday at 4pm ET/3pm CT. The Air Force Reserve American Athletic Conference Championship is March 14-17 at the FedExForum in Memphis. SMU will play in the first round on Thursday, March 14, at 12 p.m. (seed No. 8 or No. 9) or at 7 p.m. (seed No. 10).

WINNING IN WASHINGTON, D.C.: During the trip to Washington, D.C. Dec. 14-16 for the game at Georgetown, the Mustangs stayed to visit some of the sights. SMU won 81-73 versus Georgetown on Dec. 15 at Capital One Arena. That evening, the team did a bus tour of the National Mall, stopping at the Lincoln Memorial. On Dec. 16, the Mustangs toured the U.S. Capitol with Congressman Pete Sessions, and then went to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.

HEAD COACH TIM JANKOVICH... is in his third season at the helm at SMU after four seasons as the associate head coach. He is in his 36th season as a collegiate coach, and his 14th as a head coach. As a head coach, he is 226-157 (.590) [69-36 at SMU (.657), including 48-13 at Moody Coliseum (started 36-0, second best in NCAA history)]. That includes a 104-64 mark at ISU where his teams recorded four top-three finishes in the Missouri Valley, reached the conference tournament final three times and earned four NIT bids. As an assistant or head coach, his teams are 628-375 (.626) with six regular season conference championships, four league tournament titles, nine NCAA Tournament appearances and eight NIT bids. This is his 12th season as the leader of a Division I program, including five as head coach at Illinois State (2007-12) and four at North Texas (1993-97).

The 2017-18 Mustangs started 13-6 with three wins over ranked opponents, topping No. 2 Arizona in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, No. 14 USC at Moody Coliseum and No. 7 Wichita State on the road. In 2016-17, SMU finished 30-5 and No. 11 in the AP poll after winning The American regular season and tournament titles en route to the NCAA Tournament. In 2015-16, he coached the Mustangs to a 9-0 start as SMU was eventually the last unbeaten team in the country at 18-0, and winning the Las Vegas Classic title during the season-opening streak. The Mustangs went 25-5, finishing the season ranked No. 24 after reaching a high of No. 8. In 2014-15, the Mustangs claimed the AAC regular season and tournament championships en route to the NCAA Tournament. SMU was the top seed in the 2014 NIT, reaching the title game.

The Mustangs have won the AAC regular season and tournament titles in 2014-15 and 2016-17. SMU went 17-1 in 2016-17 and 15-3 in 2014-15. TROPHY CASE: Since the start of the 2013-14 season, the Mustangs have added six items to the trophy case after adding the 2016-17 American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. SMU has also won the 2015-16 Las Vegas Classic (12/16-12/23). In 2014-15, SMU won American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. In 2013-14, SMU was the runner-up in the NIT.

NBA - DRAFT: Shake Milton was selected in the second round (54th overall) of the 2018 NBA Draft. He was picked by the Dallas Mavericks, then traded to the Philadelphia 76ers where he signed a two-way contract. SMU's Semi Ojeleye and Sterling Brown were selected in the 2017 NBA Draft. Ojeleye was selected 37th overall by the Boston Celtics and Brown was picked 46th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers (traded to Milwaukee). This was the fourth time the Mustangs had multiple picks in the NBA Draft, but the first time with multiple selections in the first two rounds. Ben Moore signed as a free agent with the Indiana Pacers and is now on a two-way contract with the San Antonio Spurs.

IRA TERRELL HONORED ON JAN. 12: SMU honored the jersey of all-time great Ira Terrell during a halftime ceremony on January 12 at Moody Coliseum (77-57 win vs Tulsa). Terrell wore number 32 during his career from 1972-76. His jersey will join those of Mustang legends Jim Krebs, Jon Koncak and Gene Phillips in being recognized by SMU. Terrell was inducted into the SMU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012. He was the 1976 Southwest Conference Player of the Year and was a three-time All-SWC first team honoree. He is the only Mustang to average a double-double for three seasons. He finished his career as the SMU leader and now ranks second all-time in rebounds (1,077). He is also sixth in scoring (1,715) and second in career scoring average (21.4 per game). In 1973-74, Terrell led the Mustangs to a tie for second in the SWC and the Collegiate Coaches Association postseason tournament. He was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the third round of the 1976 NBA Draft. From 1976-78, he played for the Suns, New Orleans Jazz and Portland Trailblazers.

COACHING FOR LITERACY (CoachingForLiteracy.org): This is the fifth straight season SMU has hosted a CFL game (Jan. 2 vs East Carolina). Jonathan Wilfong (SMU '17) and Andrew Renshaw, two then-high school seniors from Memphis, Tennessee, founded Coaching for Literacy in 2012. Proceeds raised from the event go towards funding effective literacy programs focused on helping elementary and middle school students. Coaching for Literacy partners with collegiate and professional sports teams. --- The mission of Coaching for Literacy is to increase awareness about the number of people in America who are functionally or totally illiterate and the social problems associated with illiteracy. By leveraging the unique power of collegiate and professional sports, Coaching for Literacy raises money to supports effective local literacy programs and schools focused on educating elementary and middle school students. SMU hosted two CFL events in 2014-15, two in 2015-16 and one in 2016-17 and 2017-18. In 2016-17, the SMU staff wore neon green ties during a three-game stretch as part of the awareness effort from the home win against Stanford on Dec. 19 through the win a Memphis, WIlfong's home town, on Dec. 27.

DAVID B. MILLER COURT: On Dec. 5, SMU named the Moody Coliseum court after David B. Miller, alumnus and vice-chair of the Board of Trustees. A two-time SMU graduate, Miller earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration from Edwin L. Cox School of Business. As an undergraduate, he was a three-year starter and letterman on the varsity basketball team and a member of the 1971-72 Southwest Conference Co-Championship team. Since 2011, Mr. Miller and his wife, Carolyn Lacy Miller, have given $20 million toward the expansion and renovation of Moody Coliseum as well as the construction of the Miller Event Center. He has served on the SMU Board of Trustees since 2008 and also serves as chairman of the Cox Executive Board. He is a recipient of Distinguished Alumni Awards from both the University and the Cox School. In 2009, Miller was honored with the Silver Anniversary Mustang Award by the SMU Lettermen's Association. He is also a recipient of the Methodist Health System Foundation's 2017 Folsom Leadership Award. Miller is a co-founder and partner of EnCap Investments L.P., a private equity firm based in Houston and Dallas. He also is the president of the David B. Miller Family Foundation, which he established in 2006. In addition to donating to academic and athletic programs at SMU, the Miller Family Foundation contributes to numerous charitable organizations. Carolyn Miller is vice president of the foundation. The Millers have been generous long-time donors to SMU. Their gifts have created the David B. Miller Endowed Professorship in Cox School of Business, the SMU-in-Taos Campus Center, the Don Jackson Center for Financial Studies in Cox and the EnCap Investments & LCM Group Alternative Asset Management Center, also in Cox, as well as numerous general university and school-specific scholarship funds. They also have provided support for the Crum Basketball Center, the men's basketball program and Circle of Champions in the Department of Athletics. Before establishing EnCap, Mr. Miller served as co-CEO of MAZE Exploration Inc., a Denver-based oil and gas company that he co-founded in 1981. Mr. Miller began his professional career with Republic National Bank of Dallas, ultimately serving as vice president and manager of the bank's wholly-owned subsidiary, Republic Energy Finance Corporation.
