DALLAS (SMU) – Three divers will represent the Mustangs at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships March 11-13 at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas. Johanna Holloway, Katie Crown and Taylor Ohlhauser all achieved NCAA Zone qualifying scores during the 2018-19 season.
Holloway reached the qualifying standard in all three events, and will compete on 3 meter and platform at Zones. The freshman was the American Athletic Conference runner-up on platform and competed in the 3 meter Championship Final.
Crown and Ohlhauser will compete in each of their qualifying events, 1 and 3 meter. Crown set The American Championship record for the win on 1 meter, registering a career-best 309.45, and also scored in the 3 meter A Final. Ohlhauser also placed in the Championship final of both springboards.
This will be Crown's second trip to Zones after earning her way to the event as a freshman in 2018. Her highest placement of 19th came in 1-meter prelims, and she placed 25th on 3 meter. She was the first Mustang to compete at Zone Championships since Madeline Wainman did so as a freshman in 2015, and her 1-meter finish was the highest for an SMU diver since 2010.
Competition begins at 5 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday for the women, and 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday.
Qualifying Spots Per Zone
Each zone is guaranteed five qualifying spots per event. Additional spots are given based on the number of student-athletes who placed in the top 16 of that event at the previous year's NCAA Championship. A diver who is an automatic qualifier in an event may advance to the NCAA Championships in another event, provided they have placed in the top 12 of that event and achieved the NCAA Zone score.
