ORLANDO, Fla. -- SMU Women's Tennis travels to the American Conference Tennis Championship this week opening competition against Tulane at 11 a.m. on Wednesday from the USTA National Tennis Center.
The Mustangs are coming off a 9-11 regular season where the squad faced a very tough schedule that included seven teams ranked in the latest ITA Singles rankings.
Tulane and SMU faced off earlier this season in Dallas. In the conference opener, the Mustangs toppled the Green Wave with a decisive 7-0 sweep. SMU didn't drop a single set a long the way including seven sets of 6-1 or better.
The winner of the Tulane-SMU matchup moves on to a Thursday meeting with No. 3 seed Houston. That match is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Thursday.
Last season at the conference tournament, the Mustangs made a run to the finals of the event which was being hosted on their home courts. Winning three matches in a row including knocking off No. 21 UCF, the top seed in the tournament, sent the Mustangs up against Tulsa for the title. The two-seeded Golden Hurricane edged the Mustangs, 4-2, ending a memorable run for SMU. The Mustangs have been to the quarterfinals in each appearance at the tournament.
Senior Vivienne Kulicke remains ranked in the latest Oracle/ITA Singles rankings at No. 121. Fellow senior Liza Buss leads the squad with five ranked wins for the season.
