DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU rowing team will host Alabama Friday at 5 p.m. in the final regular-season regatta. The home event at White Rock Lake is the first competition since the 1V8+ posted the fastest time of the event at the Sunshine State Invite April 5-6.
The program's seven seniors will be honored during a post-race ceremony. Fans will have the opportunity to watch the races from the deck of a sail boat, sponsored by SMU. There will also be free food and t-shirts for those in attendance. The first race is tentatively scheduled to start at 5:30, with subsequent events going off every 15 minutes.
Alabama, receiving votes in the latest CRCA/USRowing Coaches Top-20 Poll, won six of its seven finals races at the Sunshine State Invite, including a sweep of three 8+ races. SMU suffered a breakage, coming to a complete stop in the first 100 meters of the 1V8+ Grand Final, yet finished just nine seconds behind the Crimson Tide.
The head-to-head race in Dallas pits SMU against the Crimson Tide for the second time this season. The Mustangs posted a time that was two full seconds faster than all other crews in the qualifying heat races in Florida, with Alabama winning the first heat.
The next competition for the Mustangs will be the American Athletic Conference Championships on May 19 in Oklahoma City.
