DALLAS (SMU) –SMU men's soccer team announced its schedule for the 2019 season. The reigning conference regular season and tournament champions, for two years running, host ten matches at Westcott Field and six on the road.
"We are excited to announce an excellent 2019 schedule," said head coach
Kevin Hudson. "We will play seven teams that competed in the NCAA tournament last season. We believe that the nonconference schedule will test our team and provide the necessary preparation before we start conference play in late September."
The Mustangs open up the 2019 campaign with a five-game homestand running Aug. 30 through Sept. 13. The season begins with a match against Lipscomb (Aug. 30) followed by games against Houston Baptist (Sept. 2), Saint Louis (Sept. 6), UC Riverside Sept. 9) and Valpo (Sept. 13).
Following the homestand, the team sets for Durham, N.C., for their first match on the road against Duke (Sept. 16) before heading to Colorado to take on Denver (Sept. 21).
Mustangs kick-off American Athletic Conference play on the road at Tulsa (Sept. 28). The squad returns to the Hilltop for match against Central Arkansas (Oct. 1) followed by an AAC Championship game rematch against UCF (Oct. 6). The team continues conference play on the road against USF (Oct. 6) before returning home to host Memphis (Oct. 18) and non-conference foe Stetson (Oct. 22).
SMU plays their final three matches against conference opponents. They hit the road to face Cincinnati (Oct. 26) before returning for the home finale against Connecticut (Nov. 1). The team wraps up the regular season at Temple (Nov. 5).
The top six teams will qualify for the AAC Championships with the top two receiving byes. The first round will be hosted at campus of seeds three and four on Saturday, Nov. 9. The semifinals and finals will be hosted at the campus of the No. 1 overall seed, with the semifinals on Wednesday Nov. 13 and the final on Saturday Nov. 16.
