COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. (CSCAA/SMU) – SMU's swimming and diving programs continue to excel in the classroom, earning College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of American (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team honors. To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, programs must have achieved a grade-point-average of 3.00 or higher over the spring semester.
Under the direction of
Steve Collins and Eddie Sinnott for the 2018-19 season, both Mustang programs also earned the honor at the conclusion of the fall semester.
"Coaches Collins and Sinnott are models of what we want our programs to be – champions in the pool, the classroom and life," CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart said.
The women posted a 3.49 GPA during the spring semester, up from a 3.39 in the fall, while the men also improved on a 3.11 mark in the fall to combine for a 3.21 this spring.
The Mustang women were also one of three SMU teams to earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards for academic excellence after scoring in the top 10 percent of their sports in the most recent Academic Progress Rates (APR).
Individual Scholar All-Americans will be announced next week.
To be selected as a member of the CSCAA Scholar All-America first team as an individual, swimmers and divers must have achieved a GPA of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.
