Mustangs Secure Two Event Victories On Day Three Of SMU Invite

DAY THREE RESULTS

DALLAS (SMU) –
SMU Men's Swimming and Diving closed the third night of the SMU Invite with two more event wins and four more NCAA standards, maintaining second place in the team competition.

100 Back

In the preliminary heat, Jack Berube qualified for the A finals, finishing second with a time of 46.32. 

Jack Berube took the win for the Mustangs, swimming a 46.07 and securing an NCAA standard.  In the B finals, Thad Austin nabbed second (10th overall) with a time of 46.78. With this time, Austin etched himself as fifth on the SMU all-time top performers list.

Andy Baklanov finished 12th overall with a 47.70. In the C finals, Nico Sobenes touched the wall in 47.59 and Francis Brennan posted a time of 47.95. Asher Good threw down a time of 48.19 and Jack Moore recorded a time of 48.62.

200 Breast
Kristaps Mikelsons nabbed an A finals spot in the 200 breast, claiming second place and a time of 1:55.07.

In the A finals for the 200 breast, Mikelsons placed third with a time of 1:53.69. This performance earns him an NCAA standard. In the B finals, Joe Umhofer recorded a 1:57.72 to finish tenth overall. Freshman Trey Clervi posted a 1:58.81 while Ewan Lonergan finished in 1:59.36.

500 Free
Francis Brennan earned a time of 4:19.06 in the preliminaries, securing himself a spot in the A finals as well as sixth on SMU's all-time top performers list. Captain Jack Forrest also qualified for the A finals after touching the wall in 4:21.07.

Forrest finished seventh in the finals, recording a time of 4:21.10. Van Eybergen finished his race in 4:19.08, ranking him seventh on the SMU all-time top performers list for the 500 free. Aubrey Jaya followed behind with a time of 4:23.21 to place tenth overall. Leonardo Pelaez and Zach Power also swam in the B finals, posting times of 4:25.32 and 4:28.27, respectively.

50 Free
Captain Sage Sungail finished third in his preliminary heat with a time of 19.44, qualifying for the A finals.

In the A finals, Sungail touched the wall in 19.54 to place sixth overall. Harold Lockhart swam in the B finals where he recorded a time of 19.70. Benjamin Chateigner threw down a time of 19.76 to finish 11th overall.

Asher Good posted a 20.18 in the event, and Cameron Thompson earned a 20.30. George Gonzalez nabbed a time of 20.32 to place 22nd, and Eli Likins finished in 20.08 to earn 25th overall. Thad Austin swam the 50 free in 20.72.

3-Meter Diving
Luke Sitz dominated once again, taking first place on the 3-meter with a combined score of 863.35. The victory marks Sitz's second win at this year's SMU Invite. Grant Cates earned a spot on the podium, finishing third overall with a score of 756.15 and securing another NCAA zone cut.

RJ Snyder came in seventh after scoring a 636.30 mark. Placing ninth, John Dymond scored a 601.45 on 3-meter.

400 Medley Relay
Earning a podium finish in the final event of the night, Jack Berube, Kristaps Mikelsons, Sage Sungail and Benjamin Chateigner placed second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:05.89. Their performance secured them an NCAA provisional standard as well as tied the SMU 400 medley relay record. In 2025, Berube, along with Russel Exum, Harold Lockhart and Lance Butler, recorded the same time.

In an exhibition, Andy Baklanov, Joe Umhofer, Cameron Thompson and George Gonzalez touched the wall in 3:13.34.

The Mustangs will continue the SMU Invite on Saturday, Nov. 22, holding preliminary heats at 10 a.m. and finals heats at 2:30 p.m.
