Platform Diving
Grant Cates dominated on platform, taking first place and the first win of the day for the Mustangs with a score of 369.60. RJ Snyder finished fifth, scoring a mark of 288.55.
1650 Free
In the 1650 free finals, Mark Van Eybergen swam a 15:00.15 to take third overall and third on SMU's all-time top performers list! This time awarded Van Eybergen an NCAA standard.
Senior Jack Forrest placed seventh after touching the wall in 15:17.73. Leonardo Pelaez finished in 15:23.43, coming in ninth place overall.
200 IM
SMU had two swimmers earn spots in the A finals, with Kristaps Mikelsons throwing down a time of 1:45.52 to finish second, and Jack Moore recording a time of 1:45.89 to place fifth. The preliminary performance from Mikelsons moved him to ninth on SMU's all-time top performers list for the 200 IM.
In the A finals, Mikelsons came away with a podium finish, securing third place and a faster time of 1:44.16 that ascended him to third on SMU's all-time top performers list. In the same heat, Jack Moore finished fifth with a time of 1:45.00 and sixth on SMU's all-time top performers list.
Junior Asher Good swam a 1:48.75 to place 16th overall. Joe Umhofer threw down a time of 1:50.88, finishing 29th overall.
100 Free
Captain Sage Sungail touched the wall in 42.88 to qualify for the A finals and Eli Likins posted a 42.97 to secure his spot. Likins' time puts him sixth on SMU's all-time top performers list for the 100 free.
Proving to go even faster, Likins finished fourth in the A finals with a time of 42.56. The performance puts him higher on SMU's all-time top performers list, now sitting at second. In the same heat, Sungail placed seventh overall after finishing in 42.80.
Freshmen George Gonzalez and Francis Brennan swam in the B finals, earning times of 43.37 and 43.64, respectively. Aubrey Jaya ended his race at 44.62, coming in 20th place overall. Following directly behind him was Cameron Thompson, throwing down a time of 44.65.
200 Fly
Senior Ryan Peckham finished second in the 200 fly preliminary race, earning a lane in the A finals with a time of 1:45.53. Freshman Zach Power also made the cut for A finals, recording a time of 1:46.71.
In the A finals, Peckham finished in 1:45.44, placing fourth overall. Zach Power touched the wall in 1:48.08 to finish seventh. Nico Sobenes came in first in his heat (ninth overall), earning fifth on SMU's all-time top performers list with a time of 1:44.56. Taking the following two spots behind Sobenes were Aidan Arie and Ben Longeway, recording times of 1:46.17 and 1:46.55, respectively.
200 Back
In the 200 back preliminary, Andy Baklanov finished second, securing another NCAA standard at the SMU Invite with a time of 1:41.02. Junior Jack Berube followed with a time of 1:41.20, also qualifying for the A final and the NCAA standard. The third Mustang to qualify was Francis Brennan after throwing down a time of 1:43.77.
In the finals, Jack Berube broke his own 200 back record of 1:40.37, finishing the race in 1:40.15 and securing the win for the Mustangs. Andy Baklanov came in third after posting a time of 1:42.22.
In the B final, Thad Austin recorded a time of 1:49.19 to finish 14th overall. Asher Good placed third in his heat (19th overall) after registering a time of 1:50.02.
400 Free Relay
In the final event of the SMU Invite, the Mustangs made a statement with their record-breaking podium finish. The squad of Sage Sungail, Eli Likins, Harold Lockhart and Benjamin Chateigner finished the 400 free relay in 2:48.72, dethroning the previous SMU record of 2:50.39 set in 2024 by Chris Mykkanen, Lance Butler, Colin Feehery and Danny Kovac.
SMU's other relay team, consisting of Jack Moore, Francis Brennan, George Gonzalez and Kristaps Mikelsons, finished fifth overall with a final time of 2:51.92.
