KANSAS CITY, Mo. (United Soccer Coaches/SMU) -- After a perfect start to the 2019 campaign, SMU is ranked No. 8 in the most recent United Soccer Coaches poll.
It's the first time the Mustangs have been ranked in the top-10 in season since the final poll of 2017, when the team ended the year in the No. 8 slot.
The Mustangs are 6-0-0 for the first time since 2010 and have impressive wins over Duke, Lipscomb and Saint Louis. The team's 21 goals are the second-most in the country behind Clemson (25). On the other side of the pitch, SMU's backline has allowed just .170 goals per game, the best mark in the nation after conceding just one goal through six matches. SMU leads the American Athletic Conference in nearly every statistical category and is the only team remaining without a loss.
The awards have piled in for the Mustangs so far this season.
Nicky Hernandez - AAC Honor Roll
Garrett McLaughlin - AAC Honor Roll
Talen Maples - AAC Defensive Player of the Week
Shane Lanson - AAC Honor Roll
Brandon Terwege - TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week
The Mustangs found themselves climbing to the top in other polls too, as SMU is ranked No. 9 in Top Drawer Soccer's recent poll and No. 15 in College Soccer News' week three ranking.
SMU will look to continue its winning ways on Saturday, September 17 when it travels to Denver for a showdown with the Denver Pioneers at 6 p.m. CT.
