DALLAS (SMU) – The Mustangs won eight events, including a sweep of both diving events and both relays, and defeated American Athletic Conference opponent Tulane, 153-147, on Saturday afternoon in New Orleans.
Felicia Anderson,
Gabi Grobler,
Erin Trahan and
Sam Smith opened the event with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, clocking in at 1:44.60, and
Alex Stevens joined Trahan, Anderson and Smith for a win in the 200 free relay (1:35.00) to close the event.
Johanna Holloway and
Nicole Stambo split diving victories, with Holloway winning 3 meter and Stambo taking 1 meter. Both Holloway (296.32) and
Taylor Ohlhauser (293.10), SMU's top-two finishers on 3 meter, came in above the NCAA Zone qualifying score, while Stambo (288.82) and Ohlhauser (272.62) did the same on 1 meter.
Katie Crown placed third on both boards.
Reigning AAC Swimmer of the Week Anderson swept backstroke races for the second straight event, winning the 100 in a time of 56.19 and the 200 in 2:01.09. Grobler joined Anderson in the top three of the 200, finishing third at 2:04.34.
The butterfly team of Trahan and
Olivia Grossklaus had the Mustangs on top again with Trahan (55.54) pacing the 100 field and Grossklaus (2:02.68) leading the 200. Trahan was also the runner-up in the 50 free (24.12), while Grossklaus was third in the 500 free (5:06.44).
Smith (100 free), Grobler (100 breast) and
Janelle Gursoy (200 free) all posted additional runner-up performances for the Mustangs, while
Elise Johnson posted a third place finish in the 100 breast.
SMU also picked up crucial third-place points from freshmen
Frederica Kizek (1,000 free),
Julia Yakushi (200 breast) and
Valentina Becerra (100 fly) to contribute to the team total.
The Mustangs return to action Friday, Feb. 7 vs. No. 10 Texas for Senior Day.
