PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/AAC) – Chika Iwuamadi was named American Athletic Conference Track Athlete Of The Week after her school-record setting performance in the 400m at the Meyo Invite on Saturday.
 
Iwuamadi clocked a 53.52 in the Championship final, topping the school record she set back as a freshman. The standout sophomore has placed first in each time she's ran the 400m this season, including two top finishes as a part of SMU's 4x400 squad.
 
Her time at the Meyo Invite puts her atop the conference and 17^th best in the country. Iwuamadi earned All-AAC status her freshman season when she took home bronze at The American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
 
The Mustangs have been awarded Track AOTW honors after each of their three 2020 meets. Chelsea Francis won the previous two. SMU returns to competition this weekend as they head to the Don Kirby Invite hosted by New Mexico and the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt.
