SMU Men's Tennis travels to Louisiana over the weekend to take on LSU and Tulane. Playing a pair of doubleheaders alongside the SMU women's team, the Mustangs will face LSU at the LSU Tennis Complex in a Saturday showdown at noon. SMU then travels to New Orleans to take on Tulane at City Park Tennis Center, slated for noon on Sunday.

Off to an 8-2 start, the Mustangs attempt to avenge a pair of tough ranked losses from the 2019 campaign. No. 23 LSU defeated SMU, 6-1 at the SMU Tennis Complex while No. 43 Tulane narrowly edged the Mustangs in a tight match in New Orleans. With a pair of wins, the Mustangs would get to the 10 wins earlier in the season than any Mustang team in the last 25 years (previous record was Feb. 28 in 2015).

The Mustangs are coming off a road split last weekend against Old Dominion and Nebraska. SMU lost in a third-set thriller to the Monarchs before rebounding with a 4-3 victory over Nebraska in Norfolk, Va. Caleb Chakravarthi, Ethan Leon, Carles Sarrio and Jordi Redelijk are tied for the lead in singles wins at five wins a piece. Huntley Allen and Jan-Simon Vrsbky have combined for the most doubles wins, at three. The Mustangs have used 11 different doubles combos this season.

CHAKRAVARTHI/VAISE ENTER ITA RANKINGS
The doubles pairing of juniors Caleb Chakravarthi and Tomas Vaise were ranked No. 55 in the latest ITA Doubles Rankings. The duo combined for a 6-4 win over the No. 4 doubles pairing in the country of Ito/Sigsgaard of Texas.
HOT START
The 8-2 start matches the Mustangs best start since 2015, when SMU also started 8-2 before narrowly missing an NCAA Tournament bid. Last season, the Mustangs started the season 7-3.
ABOUT LSU
LSU enters the matchup with SMU holding a 5-2 record on the season after starting the 2020 Â campaign, 5-0. Last weekend, the Tigers suffered a pair of 4-3 defeats to Dartmouth and Tulane. LSU has racked up wins against VCU, Virginia Tech, Incarnate Word and Alcorn State. Boris Koslov is ranked No. 51 and playing a majority of line one for LSU. The Tigers feature a ranked doubles pairing of Moreno-Thomas.

Tulane is off to a 4-4 start after facing a grueling opening slate. The Green Wave lost to No. 11 Stanford and Miami and ITA Kickoff and fell to Virginia and Texas Tech more recently, both by 4-3 scores. Tulane knocked off No. 20 Mississippi State last weekend with a 4-0 sweep. The Green Wave boast two ranked singles players, No. 49 Ewan Moore and No. 64 Hamish Stewart.
SERIES HISTORY (LSU)
LSU maintains a 6-5 edge in the career history between the two programs. The two teams met for the first time since 2003 last season with the Tigers winning 6-1 at the SMU Tennis Complex. The Tigers and Mustangs met once in the NCAA Tournament round of 16 in 1998 as LSU knocked off the Mustangs before bowing out in the quarterfinals.
SERIES HISTORY (TULANE)
Tulane holds a 7-6 edge in the series with the Mustangs including winning the last four matchups. Last season No. 43 Tulane knocked off the Mustangs, 5-2 in New Orleans on March 31. Carles Sarrio earned a win on No. 1 against No. 64 Ewan Moore, 6-2, 6-0 and Tomas Vaise won on line four.

The SMU Tennis Complex was awarded the UTSA Most Outstanding Facility Award over the Summer. The complex which features six indoor and six outdoor courts opened in 2015. All SMU home matches are free to attend. The Facility added Playsight Technology to the outdoor courts over the summer and recently announced the addition of Wingfield Technology on Indoor No. 5, the first of its kind in the United States.
