NORFOLK, Va. (SMU) – The Mustangs' comeback attempt fell short, 4-3, on the road against Old Dominion on Friday at the Stevens-Folkes Tennis Center..

Grant Chen. "We were on our heels in doubles and dug ourselves a hole. The team competed well and put ourselves in a position to win the match but fell a little short. Credit to ODU. We will look to rebound tomorrow against a gritty Nebraska team."
The Mustangs fell behind early with the Monarchs taking the doubles point. ODU earned wins on court one and court two.
SMU (7-2) responded quickly in singles play against Old Dominion (5-1) jumping out to first set leads on four of six courts.
Carles Sarrio faced off with a nationally-ranked opponent on line two and dropped his match, 6-1, 6-3. ODU extended that lead as Oliver Tobisch topped
Jordi Redelijk on court six, forcing the Mustangs to be perfect on the four remaining courts.
Caleb Chakravarthi got the comeback started by putting the Mustangs on the board on court one. The junior transfer won his matchup, 6-2, 6-4. The Mustangs are 7-2 from line one this season.
Huntley Allen won convincingly on No. 5, 6-2, 6-3 followed by
Ethan Leon tying the score with his 6-4, 6-4 victory.
For the second consecutive match it came down to
Tomas Vaise locked in a tight battle in the third set. Vaise had won his first set 6-3 before ODU responded 6-1. In the third Vaise pushed the score to 5-4 before the Monarch fended off three match points and eventually won the next three games to clinch the dual match victory.
The Mustangs remain in Virginia on Saturday to face Nebraska in a neutral site match. The Huskers and Mustangs face off at 12 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. CT.
