Mustangs Fall To No. 10 Texas

DALLAS (SMU) – Three Mustangs picked up wins as the SMU women's swimming and diving team fell, 159-132, to No. 10 Texas on Friday night at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.

Erin Trahan swept butterfly events, while Gabi Grobler won the 200-yard individual medley and Julia Yakushi picked up her first collegiate win in the 200-yard breaststroke to lead the Mustangs.

Trahan won the 100 fly in a time of 54.16 and led an SMU duo in the top two of the 200, covering the distance in 2:00.49 for the win. Olivia Grossklaus clocked in at 2:00.88 for second.

In the 200 IM, Grobler's 2:04.08 was good for the win, while Janelle Gursoy came in third at 2:07.46. Grobler was also the runner-up in the 200 back (2:02.14), while Felicia Anderson was third in both backstroke events.

Yakushi's win in the 200 breast saw her stop the clock at 2:21.75 ahead of teammate Elise Johnson, who finished third at 2:24.61. The freshman was also the top finisher in the 100 distance for the Mustangs, coming in second with a time of 1:05.25. Johnson was third at 1:05.97.

Frederica Kizek posted a season-best time of 10:12.97 to place second in the 1,000-yard freestyle, and Grossklaus also posted a runner-up finish to lead the Mustangs in the 500 distance (4:59.42).

Sam Smith finished third in both the 50 (23.93) and 100 (51.89) freestyles, and Gursoy (1:52.31) and Alex Stevens (1:52.69) finished second and third, respectively, in the 200 free.

In relay action, Stevens, Trahan, Anderson and Smith closed the event with a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:34.51).

Nicole Stambo led the Mustang divers at the event, placing fourth on both boards. Her 301.50 on 3 meter was a personal best.

Prior to the event, the Mustangs honored three seniors for their contributions to the program – Anderson, Lindsey Blanchard and Trahan.
