On March 12, the American Athletic Conference cancelled its tournament due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The following day, the NCAA announced that all winter and spring championships were canceled.
 
Commissioner Mike Aresco announced on the morning (March 12) that the 2020 Air Force Reserve Men's Basketball Championship, scheduled to take place March 12-15 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, would not be played. The decision was made in consultation with the Conference's leadership in light of developments regarding the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This was a proactive decision to protect the safety, health and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches and staff and all involved with the tournament.
 
SMU finished 19-11 overall and 9-9 in The American. Kendric Davis, Tyson Jolly and Isiaha Mike were all named to the All-American Athletics Conference Third Team. Davis was also on the NABC All-District Second Team. All three Mustangs finished among the top 15 in The American in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, free throw percentage and minutes. This is the most all-league honors for SMU since four Mustangs were honored in 2016-17.
 
SMU led the American Athletic Conference in scoring (72.9), field goal percentage (45.1%), free-throw percentage (76.2%, 25th NCAA), assists (15.6, 19th NCAA) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2). The Mustangs had four of the top 25 scorers in the AAC; Tyson Jolly (14.5, 7th), Kendric Davis (14.2, 8th), Isiaha Mike (14.0, 10th) and Feron Hunt (11.0, 25th AAC). Davis also led the league in assists (6.7, 10th NCAA) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.7, 19th NCAA). Davis was second in the league in free-throw percentage at 85.4% with Mike behind him at 80.5% (4th AAC) and Jolly at 78.0% (14th AAC). From the floor, Hunt ranked third in the AAC hitting 55.7% with Mike 8th (48.1%), Jolly 11th (45.8%) and Davis 12th (44.9%). From 3-point range, Tyson Jolly was 38.2% (7th AAC) and Isiaha Mike 37.7% (9th AAC). SMU finished third in the AAC in rebound margin (4.2) with three players in the top 15 (Hunt 6.7, 8th; Mike 6.3, 9th; Jolly 6.2, 13th). 
 
QUICK HITS:
• The Mustangs had four different players earn 10 spots on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll; Tyson Jolly (Nov. 11, Jan. 20), Isiaha Mike (Nov. 18, Dec. 23), Feron Hunt (Nov. 25, Dec. 30, Feb. 17), Kendric Davis (Jan. 6, Jan. 13, Jan. 27).
 
• SMU did not have any seniors.
 
• The Mustangs rallied from a double-digit deficit to win three times in 2020. The first was from 15 down for a 92-81 overtime win at Vanderbilt on Jan. 4, then from 11 down in a 68-52 victory against Temple on Jan. 18 and finally from 12 for the 74-70 triumph at [20/20] Memphis on Jan. 25. The deficits at Vanderbilt and Memphis were both in the last 8 minutes of the second half. SMU closed regulation 20-5 at Vanderbilt and 35-9 including overtime. The Mustangs closed regulation 15-0 at Memphis. SMU has won after trailing by double digits eight times under Head Coach Tim Jankovich (17 occasions in his time on staff at SMU.)
 
• The Mustangs had seven players that scored at least 15 points in a game this season: Tyson Jolly (18x), Kendric Davis (13x), Feron Hunt (9x), Isiaha Mike (9x), Ethan Chargois (3x), CJ White (2x) and Emmanuel Bandoumel. Jolly (6), Mike (6), Davis (5) and Hunt (2) have had 20-point games. 
 
• The 73-72 overtime win against Houston on Feb. 15 was the fourth overtime game of the season. All four overtime (2-2) games are since the Dec. 20 matchup at Georgia. Prior to that game, SMU had played 164 straight games without an overtime (just over 5 years), which was the longest active streak in the country.
 
• SMU held 15 of 30 opponents below 40% shooting (11 of 17 home games). SMU is 53-6 under Tim Jankovich, and went 12-3 this season, when holding opponents at or below 40%. SMU's field goal percentage defense was 41.8. Only nine opponents hit 45% or better.
 
• SMU outrebounded 19 of 30 opponents (13 of 17 homes games). Under Tim Jankovich, SMU is 69-17 when having an advantage on the glass. The season rebound margin was +4.2. SMU was +10 or better 12 times. SMU averaged 11.5 offensive rebounds (4th AAC) and had an offensive rebound percentage of 34.1 (2nd AAC).
 
• SMU led the league and ranked 25th nationally at 76.2% on free throws. SMU's top four scorers were all 74% or better: Kendric Davis (85.4%, 2nd AAC), Isiaha Mike (80.5%, 4th AAC), Tyson Jolly (78.0%, 14th AAC) and Feron Hunt (74.3%). Emmanuel Bandoumel also hit 77.3%.
 
• The Mustangs had at least four score in double figures 16 times this season (12-4). SMU had five in double figures four times (3-1). Under Tim Jankovich, SMU is 62-14 when at least four score 10+.
 
.• Kendric Davis (All-AAC Third Team, NABC All-District Third Team) averaged 14.2 points (8th AAC) and an AAC-best 6.7 assists (10th NCAA) with 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals. He is 88-103 on FTs (85.4%, 2nd AAC). Davis had 5 or more assists in 21 of 26 games. He had a streak of 14 straight games with 5+ assists (11/27/19 to 1/25/20), which is the longest streak at SMU since Butch Moore's program-record streak of 16 games from 3/14/85 to 1/8/86. His assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.7 led the AAC and ranked 19th nationally.
 
• Feron Hunt averaged 11.0 points (25th AAC), 6.7 rebounds (8th AAC) and 0.8 blocks (12th AAC) while shooting 55.7% (3rd AAC). He was 13th in the league with 2.0 offensive rebounds per game. He had 9 or more rebounds 7 times this season and had 4 double-doubles. He also totaled 22 steals.
 
• Tyson Jolly (All-AAC Third Team) averaged 14.5 points (7th AAC) and 6.2 rebounds (13th AAC) while shooting 45.8% overall (11th AAC) and 38.2% from three (7th AAC). He had 15+ points in 18 of 30 games and 20+ on six occasions. He also hit 78.0% on FTs (14th AAC), including a 10-10 performance in the 73-72 OT win over [20-19] Houston on Feb. 15.
 
• Isiaha Mike (All-AAC Third Team) averaged 14.0 points (10th AAC) and 6.3 rebounds (9th AAC). He was also among the league leaders in FG% (45.8, 11th AAC), 3FG% (37.7, 9th AAC) and FT% (80.5, 4th AAC). He scored in double figures in 24 of 30 games this season. His 2.1 threes made per game were fifth in the AAC and he also averaged 1.4 steals (14th AAC).
 
.• Five Mustangs recorded double-doubles. Isiaha Mike (5), Tyson Jolly (5), Feron Hunt (4), Kendric Davis (3) and Ethan Chargois. Six times this season, two Mustangs had a double-double in the same game (4-2). This is the first time SMU has had at least five guys record a double-double since 2016-17. The SMU record is 7 different players in 1978-79. Six players accomplished it in 1977-78 and 1997-98.
 
• SMU is 90-49 under Tim Jankovich and 63-15 at Moody Coliseum.
 
• SMU is 47-12 in regular-season non-conference games under Tim Jankovich. The Mustangs are 38-4 at Moody Coliseum in those games, 3-4 in neutral-site games and 6-4 in true road games.
 
• SMU is 66-42 in AAC play since start of 2014-15. The Mustangs are 41-13 at Moody Coliseum.

• SMU won the Southwestern Showdown presented by Engage Telehealth. SMU went 4-0, winning at UNLV (72-68) and at home versus Jackson State (80-63), Hartford (90-58) and Abilene Christian (70-51). Kendric Davis was selected MVP with Tyson Jolly & Feron Hunt named all-tournament.
 
• SMU was among those those receiving votes in the AP Poll and USA Today Coaches Poll on Feb. 17. That was the first time in the Coaches Poll this season and the third time in the AP Poll (Dec. 2, Jan. 27).The Mustangs have been ranked or receiving votes in the AP Poll in six of the past seven seasons.
 
• The 73-72 overtime win vs [20/19] Houston on Feb. 15 was the second win over a ranked team this season (won 74-70 at [20/20] Memphis on Jan. 25). SMU now has 12 wins under Tim Jankovich over teams ranked or receiving votes, with three this season (won at [rv/rv] Evansville). It was the seventh win under Jankovich over a ranked team.
 
• SMU has 7 wins against AP Top 25 teams under Tim Jankovich (17 games). That is second at SMU. Doc Hayes had 13 from 1947-67.
 
•  SMU has won two American Athletic Conference Championships (2015 & 2017).
 
•  SMU has had three players selected in the NBA Draft since 2017. Sterling Brown and Semi Ojeleye in 2017 and Shake Milton in 2018. Jahmal McMurray was selected in the 2019 NBA G-League Draft and is with the Texas Legends, the affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks. Ben Moore is playing for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the G-League affiliate of the Indiana Pacers.
 
• The Mustangs have had 15 All-American Athletic Conference honorees in the first seven seasons of the league, including four first-team selections.
 
• SMU Football went 10-2 in the regular season (10-3 overall), and was one of 21 FBS teams with at least 10 regular-season wins. SMU Men's Basketball started 8-0, and was one of the final 14 remaining undefeated teams. SMU and Ohio State were the only FBS programs with at least 10 wins in football that started at least 8-0 start in men's basketball.

FINDING THE RANGE: Isiaha Mike finished 7th in The American in 3-point percentage (38.2%, 63-167) while hitting 80.5% (62-77, 4th AAC) at the free-throw line. His 2.1 threes made per game were 5th in the AAC. 
 
STEPPING UP TO THE MIKE: Isiaha Mike hit two of the biggest shots for SMU this season (both on assists from Kendric Davis). Mike hit the tying three with 19 seconds left at Vanderbilt as SMU rallied from 15 down to eventually win 92-81 in overtime. At [20/20] Memphis, Mike scored 8 of the final 15 points including the three that gave SMU the lead with 1:48 to play. The Mustangs closed on a 15-0 run in the 74-70 road win.
 
HUNTING FOR REBOUNDS: Feron Hunt posted 6.7 rebounds (8th AAC) with 2.0 offensive rebounds (13th AAC). He had a season-high 13 rebounds vs New Orleans. He has 7 or more rebounds in 33 career games, including 15 of 30 this season (10+ 5 times this season). He led the team 10 times this season and 20 times in his first two seasons. Hunt shared the team lead in rebounding at 6.4 per game as a freshman. He was just the sixth Mustang to lead the team as a freshman.

MOSTLY FREE: SMU hit 76.2% at the free-throw line (1st AAC, 25th NCAA). Kendric Davis led SMU (85.4%, 2nd AAC) with Isiaha Mike at 80.5% (4th AAC), Tyson Jolly 78.0% (14th AAC) and Feron Hunt 74.3%. Feron Hunt was 4-4 in the final 16 seconds in the 79-75 win vs Connecticut. Tyson Jolly hit 3-3 (fouled on 3FGA) with 13 seconds left at Temple to send the game to overtime, and was 10-10 in his 20-point performance in the 73-72 OT win against then-No. 20 Houston.

KENDRIC 20-20: Kendric Davis was 88-103 at the FT line this season (85.4%, 2nd AAC). He made 40 of his first 41, hitting 20 before his first miss, then 20 more before his second miss. He was 11-14 in the game against UCF on Jan. 8, setting the SMU record for attempts in an AAC game and tying the record for makes in an AAC contest. He was 50-64 (78.1%) in AAC games.
 
FIVE AND DIME: Kendric Davis had 5 or more assists in 21 of 26 games, including an AAC-record tying 13 in the win against Tulane on Feb. 1. He had a streak of 5 or more assists in 14 straight games (11/27/19 to 1/25/20). That was the longest streak of games with at least 5 assists since the SMU record of 16 in a row by Butch Moore from 3/14/85 to 1/8/86. Davis' average of 6.7 assists leads the AAC (10th NCAA). It would tie for sixth in a season at SMU, and the most since Gerald Lewis (6.7) in 1992-93. Davis also has a league-best 2.7 assist-to-turnover ratio (19th NCAA).

MOODY MAGIC: The Mustangs went 15-2 at Moody Coliseum this season. This is the seventh time in program history that SMU has successfully defended home court at least 15 times. Five of those are in the past seven seasons. Since Moody Coliseum re-opened for the 2014 American Athletic Conference schedule, SMU has successfully defended home court 100 times in 119 contests.

HEAD COACH TIM JANKOVICH... is in his fourth  season at the helm at SMU after four seasons as the associate head coach. He is in his 37th season as a collegiate coach, and his 15th as a head coach. As a head coach, he is 247-170 (.592) [90-49 at SMU (.647), including 63-15 (.808) at Moody Coliseum (started 36-0, second best in NCAA history)]. That includes a 104-64 mark at ISU where his teams recorded four top-three finishes in the Missouri Valley, reached the conference tournament final three times and earned four NIT bids. As an assistant or head coach, his teams are 628-375 (.626) with six regular season conference championships, four league tournament titles, nine NCAA Tournament appearances and eight NIT bids. This is his 12th season as the leader of a Division I program, including five as head coach at Illinois State (2007-12) and four at North Texas (1993-97). The 2017-18 Mustangs started 13-6 with three wins over ranked opponents, topping No. 2 Arizona in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, No. 14 USC at Moody Coliseum and No. 7 Wichita State on the road. In 2016-17, SMU finished 30-5 and No. 11 in the AP poll after winning The American regular season and tournament titles en route to the NCAA Tournament. In 2015-16, he coached the Mustangs to a 9-0 start as SMU was eventually the last unbeaten team in the country at 18-0, and winning the Las Vegas Classic title during the season-opening streak. The Mustangs went 25-5, finishing the season ranked No. 24 after reaching a high of No. 8. In 2014-15, the Mustangs claimed the AAC regular season and tournament championships en route to the NCAA Tournament. SMU was the top seed in the 2014 NIT, reaching the title game.

CALL IT A COMEBACK: SMU rallied from 15 points down (72-57 at 6:28) to win 92-81 in overtime at Vanderbilt on January 4. That ties for the seventh largest comeback in program history and the ties for the largest under Head Coach Tim Jankovich (80-75 win vs Tulane 2/15/17). SMU closed regulation at Vanderbilt on a 20-5 run to tie the game at 77-all. The Mustangs then had a 15-4 advantage in overtime. SMU still trailed by 10 with less than five minutes left, getting the deficit to 8 points on two Emmanuel Bandoumel free throws with 4:04 remaining. That makes it one of 30 NCAA D-I comebacks from 10 or more in the final 5 minutes. The Mustangs still trailed by 6 in the final minute when Tyson Jolly hit a 3 with 28 seconds left to cut it to 77-74. Kendric Davis stole the inbounds pass and tried to score on a layup. Davis missed and then got the offensive rebounds, passing to Isiaha Mike outside the top of the key where Mike hit the tying three with 19 seconds remaining to get the game into overtime.
 
CALL IT A COMEBACK - PART 2: SMU rallied from 11 points down (23-12 at 6:03 1st half) to win 68-52 against Temple on January 18. Tyson Jolly had a career-high 25 points, with 22 points in the second half. He also had a career-high 14 rebounds with 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. It was the seventh time under Head Coach Tim Jankovich that the Mustangs allied from a double-digit deficit to win.
 
CALL IT A COMEBACK - PART 3: SMU trailed by 12 points at No. 20/20 Memphis (68-56 with 7:08 left), before closing the gap and winning 74-70. The Mustangs closed on a 15-0 run over the final 5:32 en route to the road win. Kendric Davis had 20 points and 5 assists, hitting 3 free throws in the final minute. Isiaha Mike had 13 points, all in the second half, including 8 in the final 15-0 run.
 
SCORING 20-20: In the win over UCF on Jan.8, the Mustangs had two 20-point scorers as Kendric Davis had 22 and Feron Hunt had 20 (career high). That was the second straight game with a pair of 20-point performances. In the comeback 92-81 overtime win at Vanderbilt, Davis scored 24 and Tyson Jolly had 21. That marks the first time for two 20-point scorers in consecutive games since 2015-16 against Nicholls 12/16/15 (W, 86-42; Ben Moore 22, Shake Milton 20) and Hampton 12/17/15 (W, 105-72; Sterling Brown 23, Jordan Tolbert 20).
 
TROPHY CASE: Since the start of the 2013-14 season, the Mustangs have added seven items to the trophy case. SMU won the 2014-15 and 2016-17 American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. SMU has also won 2019-20 Southwestern Showdown and the 2015-16 Las Vegas Classic. In 2013-14, SMU was the runner-up in the NIT.
 
AMERICAN/SEC ALLIANCE: New for 2019-20, The American has entered into a scheduling alliance with the SEC that features four teams from each conference playing home-and-home series over the course of each of the next two seasons. The matchups in the American/SEC Alliance for 2019-20 are Georgia at Memphis (UGA won 65-62), Ole Miss at Wichita State (WSU won 74-54), Houston at South Carolina (UH won 76-56) and SMU at Vanderbilt (SMU won 92-81 in OT).
 
NON-CONFERENCE REGULAR SEASON UNDER JANKOVICH: SMU is 47-12 in regular-season non-conference games under Tim Jankovich. The Mustangs are 38-4 at Moody Coliseum in those games, 3-4 in neutral-site games and 6-4 in true road games.
 
INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE FOR THE MUSTANGS (Current Roster): In the past few seasons, several Mustangs have played in international events or gone on international tours. Additionally, 2-time AAC Player of the Year and All-American Nic Moore helped Team USA win the gold medal at the 2015 World University Games in South Korea.

Coaches vs. Cancer SUITS & SNEAKERS WEEK (Jan. 20-26): The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. This initiative leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs. Since 1993, coaches have raised over $100 million for the American Cancer Society. Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers Week is a nationwide event when basketball coaches across the country unite for a common cause – saving lives from cancer! Coaches and their staff across the nation wear sneakers with their suits during games to raise awareness and help save lives from cancer by raising funds and encouraging people to educate themselves about cancer prevention, screening, and early detection.
 
2019 #FIGHT4LITERACY GAME: SMU Men's Basketball and Veritex Community Bank have partnered with Coaching for Literacy to support Readers 2 Leaders, a Dallas organization that promotes childhood reading and raises funds for the local literacy work. This is the sixth straight season SMU Men's Basketball has hosted a Coaching For Literacy game. Because life success is directly tied to the ability to read proficiently by the end of 3rd grade, the futures of local kids are on the line every year. That is why SMU and Tim Jankovich will host a #Fight4Literacy Game on December 3, 2019 to promote childhood reading and raise funds for the local literacy work of Readers 2 Leaders. For every $10 contributed by SMU Mustangs fans, Coaching for Literacy (CFL) will provide 2 books to local kids.

COACHING FOR LITERACY (CoachingForLiteracy.org): This is the sixth straight season SMU has hosted a CFL game (Dec. 3 vs Northwestern State - partnering with Veritex Community Bank to support Readers 2 Leaders). Jonathan Wilfong (SMU '17) and Andrew Renshaw, two then-high school seniors from Memphis, Tennessee, founded Coaching for Literacy in 2012. Proceeds raised from the event go towards funding effective literacy programs focused on helping elementary and middle school students. Coaching for Literacy partners with collegiate and professional sports teams. --- The mission of Coaching for Literacy is to increase awareness about the number of people in America who are functionally or totally illiterate and the social problems associated with illiteracy. By leveraging the unique power of collegiate and professional sports, Coaching for Literacy raises money to supports effective local literacy programs and schools focused on educating elementary and middle school students. SMU hosted two CFL events in 2014-15, two in 2015-16 and one in 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19. In 2016-17, the SMU staff wore neon green ties during a three-game stretch as part of the awareness effort from the home win against Stanford on Dec. 19 through the win a Memphis, WIlfong's home town, on Dec. 27.
 
DAVID B. MILLER COURT: On Dec. 5, 2018, SMU named the Moody Coliseum court after David B. Miller, alumnus and vice-chair of the Board of Trustees. A two-time SMU graduate, Miller earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration from Edwin L. Cox School of Business. As an undergraduate, he was a three-year starter and letterman on the varsity basketball team and a member of the 1971-72 Southwest Conference Co-Championship team. Since 2011, Mr. Miller and his wife, Carolyn Lacy Miller, have given $20 million toward the expansion and renovation of Moody Coliseum as well as the construction of the Miller Event Center. He has served on the SMU Board of Trustees since 2008 and also serves as chairman of the Cox Executive Board. He is a recipient of Distinguished Alumni Awards from both the University and the Cox School. In 2009, Miller was honored with the Silver Anniversary Mustang Award by the SMU Lettermen's Association. He is also a recipient of the Methodist Health System Foundation's 2017 Folsom Leadership Award. Miller is a co-founder and partner of EnCap Investments L.P., a private equity firm based in Houston and Dallas. He also is the president of the David B. Miller Family Foundation, which he established in 2006. In addition to donating to academic and athletic programs at SMU, the Miller Family Foundation contributes to numerous charitable organizations. Carolyn Miller is vice president of the foundation. The Millers have been generous long-time donors to SMU. Their gifts have created the David B. Miller Endowed Professorship in Cox School of Business, the SMU-in-Taos Campus Center, the Don Jackson Center for Financial Studies in Cox and the EnCap Investments & LCM Group Alternative Asset Management Center, also in Cox, as well as numerous general university and school-specific scholarship funds. They also have provided support for the Crum Basketball Center, the men's basketball program and Circle of Champions in the Department of Athletics. Before establishing EnCap, Mr. Miller served as co-CEO of MAZE Exploration Inc., a Denver-based oil and gas company that he co-founded in 1981. Mr. Miller began his professional career with Republic National Bank of Dallas, ultimately serving as vice president and manager of the bank's wholly-owned subsidiary, Republic Energy Finance Corporation.
