AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) - SMU men's tennis fell to No. 6 Texas, 7-0, on Saturday at the Texas Tennis Center.
The Longhorns jumped out to the early lead with a win in doubles.
Caleb Chakravarthi and
Huntley Allen lost 6-1 on No. 3 while
Tomas Vaise and
Juan Jose Bianchi fell 6-2 on the top line.
Liam Krall and
Julian Steinhausen were all square at 3-3 on the second line when the point was clinched for the Longhorns.
Texas, the reigning national champs, ran out a singles roster of three ranked players on lines one through three.
Chakravarthi was tasked with facing No. 57 Siem Woldeab on the top line. After losing 6-1 in the first, the senior captain pushed set two to 4-4 before falling, 6-4. The other captain,
Jan-Simon Vrbsky lined up with No. 78 Micah Braswell and lost 6-4, 6-4. Freshman
Liam Krall faced No. 120 Eliot Spizzirri in a 6-4, 6-3 defeat.
Steinhausen played a tight first set but eventually lost on line four, 7-5, 6-3.
Jordi Redelijk played a close second set during a 6-0, 6-4 loss on court five. On No. 6, Bianchi finished on the wrong end of a 6-0, 6-1 score.
Next up, the Mustangs head to Waco to face the 15-ranked Baylor Bears in a Monday doubleheader. Matches are slated for 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Hawkins Tennis Center.
