DALLAS- SMU's men's golf team looks to defend its tournament-record 27-stroke victory from the spring in the fifth annual Trinity Forest Invitational. Admission to the Mustangs' home tournament, which runs October 4-5 at Trinity Forest Golf Club, is free.

The Mustangs are coming off a school-record showing in the final round of the Old Town Collegiate Invitational, posting a 268 to move up to a fifth-place finish in Winston-Salem. SMU returns the same starting five from Old Town Club as their A-Team for the event, and additionally is entering five more golfers as the B-Team.

Noah Goodwin leads the SMU A-Team into the event, where he finished solo-2^nd a year ago, one stroke behind Little Rock's Anton Albers. Goodwin, a preseason Haskins Award candidate, tied for seventh at Old Town Club, and has posted four straight par-or-better rounds, dating back to the season-opening Maridoe Collegiate Invitational. The senior enters the event looking for his fourth consecutive top-10 finish at Trinity Forest.

Ollie Osborne tied for fourth at the Coore and Crenshaw-designed track in the spring, and owns two top-40 finishes in two events this season. Osborne carries a 72.17 stroke average into the event, which tracks to match his career-best from 2019-20.

Ben Wong returned to the SMU lineup for the first time since the Fall of 2019 last week, and shot par-or-better each day to tie for 14^th at -5. Wong finished sixth at this event in 2018.

Holden Wisener enters his third event as an SMU player, holding a 72.33 stroke average and posting the best finish on the team at the season-opener, a tie for 23^rd. Wisener has two par-or-better rounds so far this season, including a season-best 69 in the second round at Maridoe.

Nathan Petronzio tied with his teammate Osborne for fourth at Trinity Forest in the spring, the best result of his AAC Freshman of the Year campaign. He enters the event coming off a career-best round, signing for a 66 in the final round in Winston-Salem.

Four golfers, Tyson Dinsmore, Dawson Ovard, Trip Carter and Alex Valenzuela, make their season debut on the B-Team, in addition to Prescott Butler, who is returning to action.

Butler competed in the season-opening event at Maridoe, and was a part of the Mustangs' 27-stroke victory in the spring, tying for 28^th.

Dinsmore's best career finish came at the 2019 Trinity Forest Invitational, a tie for 33^rd, and is competing in the event for the fourth time.
Ovard is seeing his first competition since a tie for 31^st at the AAC Championship, although he was the Mustangs' substitute for the 2021 NCAA Championships. Ovard tied for ninth at this event in 2019.

Carter is making his first appearance as a Mustang, and the redshirt freshman is joining a list of father-sons duos to play for SMU that includes Payne and Aaron Stewart plus DeWitt Weaver Sr. and Jr. His father, Chip played for SMU from 1985-89 and played in professional events on the PGA Tour and what is now the Korn Ferry Tour.

Valenzuela's spring Trinity Forest Invitational was highlighted by a first-round 72 and a final-round 73 in his only collegiate event to date. Valenzuela remained busy over the summer, as he served as a caddie to his sister Albane at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The tournament features 36 holes on Monday followed by a final round on Tuesday. Live Scoring is available on Golfstat.
