TULSA, Okla. (AAC/SMU) -
JP Jordan and
Mads Westergren were honored as members of the 2021 American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team, the league announced after Sunday's championship match.
The two were the only selections from a team that did not participate in the championship final as tournament champion Tulsa and runner-up UCF filled the remaining spots.
The two freshmen started and played all 90 minutes during SMU's 2-0 semifinal loss to No. 1-seed Tulsa last Thursday afternoon. Jordan, a midfielder, and Westergren, a defender, were crucial in helping the Mustangs maintain possession en route to out-shooting the Golden Hurricane 16-12. They also shone defensively, making stellar stops, including one in the 79th minute when Westergren caught up to a Tulsa forward and made a shot-saving play in the box.
Jordan earns his first collegiate conference honor with the selection while Westergren adds to his list that includes one Rookie of the Week title and a selection to the All-Rookie Team.
