DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men's swimming and diving team broke a pair of program records on day one of the three-day SMU Invitational.

In preliminary action, Jack Easton broke the program record in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:44.57. The time is the first NCAA B cut for Easton in the event and also set a Pool and Meet Record. The time topped one posted by Ryan Berube (1:44.85) in 1996.

Colin Feehery, who also came in under the school record in prelims (1:44.58), went on to win the event in the evening session, with an NCAA B cut of 1:45.49.

Justin Baker closed out individual events on night one with a 19.31 in the 50-yard freestyle to break Thomas Fadnes' 2009 record of 19.53. The time also comes in under the NCAA B standard.

SMU sits first in the team standings with 467 points. Drury is second at 273, Hawaii third at 195 and TCU, which is only competing in diving, has 42 points.

In the 500-yard freestyle, Robby King paced the field, narrowly out-touching teammate Russell Exum at 4:25.20 for the win.

Tyler Coffey was the event winner on 3 meter, posting a 338.15 Zone score for the victory. Coffey, Dominic Hoefer and Parker Hardigree all reached the Zone qualifying marks on the day.

The Mustangs set a meet and pool record to win the opening 200-yard freestyle relay as Baker, Cole Bruns, Lance Butler and Tyler Mansheim posted a time of 1:18.10. In the 400-yard medley relay, SMU picked up a win in 3:12.09 from Bruns, Evan McCormick, Easton and Baker to close out the night with a victory.

Easton was the event leader for the Mustangs in the 100-yard butterfly, and became the second-fastest performer all-time at SMU with an NCAA B cut 46.93. Exum registered a 47.75 in the event's prelims, and is 10th all-time on SMU's top performer list.

Action resumes Friday with the 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, 200 medley relay, 800 free relay and 1 meter.
