DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men's swimming and diving team turned in a dominant performance, winning the SMU Invitational.
After three nights of action, the Mustangs posted a team score of 1,418. Their closest competition, Drury, came in at 767 and Hawaii placed third at 591.
Jack Easton (1:43.07) and
Cotton Fields (1:43.78) posted a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard backstroke securing NCAA B cuts and coming in at third and fourth, respectively, on SMU's all-time top performer lists.
Three Mustangs also came in under the NCAA B standard in the 200-yard breaststroke. Winner
Colin Feehery, who had already produced a cut this season, won the event in a time of 1:55.82.
Caleb Rhodenbaugh was second at 1:56.02 and
Brayden Rudd third at 1:57.03.
Cole Bruns (43.95) was the top finisher for SMU in the 100-yard freestyle, earning runner-up honors, and
Russell Exum (1:48.97) led the team in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing third.
The final event went to the Mustangs, as Feehery, Bruns,
Charlie Kaye and
Tyler Mansheim clocked a 2:54.25 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
In diving action,
Tyler Coffey placed second on platform with 292.55 points.
The Mustangs are back in action in 2022 for the Tennessee Diving Invite (Jan. 3-6) and a two-day dual at Arizona (Jan. 7-8).
