SEASON STATS
SMU men's tennis continues its homestand with a Saturday doubleheader. The Mustangs face No. 30 Tulane at 10 a.m. followed by a 5 p.m. match with Oral Roberts.
In the midst of a three-game winning streak, the Mustangs are ranked for the first time since 2017 coming in at No. 46 in the ITA Rankings. The Mustangs begin a difficult stretch of their season where they face ranked opponents in seven of the next 10 matches.
-The No. 30 Tulane vs. No. 46 SMU matchup will be the Mustangs first ranked-against-ranked matchup since the then 43rd-ranked Mustangs faced No. 18 Mississippi State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 2017.
SINGLES UPDATE
-Julian Steinhausen leads the Mustangs with nine dual match singles wins during the season. He's currently on a seven-match winning streak dating back to Jan. 29.
-Liam Krall has recorded an 8-4 record with a seven-match winning streak. The freshman is 8-2 at the top two lines.
- Caleb Chakravarthi has a ranked win on the season when he knocked off No. 69 of Oklahoma. The senior captain is 5-5 at line one.
-The Mustangs are 16-8 in third sets this season.
-SMU is 7-2 in supertiebreakers this season.
-Tomas Vaise is on a five-match winning streak with a 6-2 record on the season.
DOUBLES UPDATE
-Playing all line one, the pairing of Tomas Vaise and Juan Jose Bianchi have a 4-4 record and have won five of their last six matches. Half of their season's losses have come in tiebreakers against nationally-ranked opponents.
-Liam Krall and Julian Steinhausen have a 5-3 record while paired together this season, playing lines one and two. The freshman duo are on a three-match winning streak.
ABOUT TULANE
Tulane is 6-4 on the season without a bad loss on the record. The Green Wave have lost twice to current No. 23 Mississippi State, both by 5-2 scores. They have losses to No. 6 Texas and now No. 25 Alabama. Tulane has beaten two top-50 teams in Miami and LSU.They also have a win over Florida State. Stewart is ranked No. 40 in singles for the Green Wave along with No. 53 Ewan Moore. Last season, SMU and Tulane met in New Orleans with the Green Wave winning 6-1 and the Mustangs winning the doubles point.
ABOUT ORAL ROBERTS
Oral Roberts is 0-6 on the season heading into the matchup with the Mustangs. The Golden Eagles have faced face ranked teams in Tulsa, Wichita State and Oklahoma State. Before facing the Mustangs, ORU takes on UT Dallas on Friday and Tulane earlier in the day on Saturday.
