DALLAS (SMU) -  SMU men's tennis split a home doubleheader on Saturday with a 4-2 loss to No. 30 Tulane and a 4-0 win over Oral Roberts.

The opening match between No. 30 Tulane and the 46th-ranked Mustangs was the first ranked-matchup for SMU since 2017 and the back-and-forth contest delivered on the excitement.

The Mustangs took the doubles point against the Green Wave thanks to wins on court one and two. Tomas Vaise and Juan Jose Bianchi were 6-4 winners on the top line while Huntley Allen and Julian Steinhausen took the win, 6-3 on line three.

Tulane held the advantage after the first sets, winning four of six. The Green Wave evened the overall score with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Vaise on court three. No. 53 Ewan Moore defeated Liam Krall, 6-4, 6-2 on win two to put Tulane in front.  Jordi Redelijk was up 5-3 in the first set before Tulane's Fynn Keunkler won 10 of the next 11 games to win the match and put Tulane up 3-1.

Clarke Wilson kept the Mustangs alive with a strong performance on court five. The transfer extended his winning streak to four with a 6-2, 6-4 win, putting the score at 3-2 Tulane.

Needing to win both of the remaining courts, the Mustangs hopes rested with Chakravarthi on court one and Steinhausen on court three.

Chakravarthi forced a tiebreaker in set one against No. 40 Hammish Stewart but ended in a 1-0 set hole after dropping the breaker. He pushed the match to a third set with a 6-3 win in the second.  Steinhausen came back from down a break to win set one, 6-4, and was leading 5-4 in the second. Tulane's Billy Suarez was able to fend off a match point and eventually win the set 7-5. In the third sets, the two courts were even (2-2 on court one, 3-3 on court three) before Tulane jumped ahead on both. The Green Wave ended the match with a 6-3 set win against Steinhausen.

SMU looked to shake off the loss in its second match of the day against Oral Roberts. The Golden Eagles made things interesting in doubles with a win over Redelijk and Callaway Clark, 6-3. Kyle Sillman and Wilson were 6-2 winners on three, putting the focus on the top line. Bianchi and Vaise pushed the match to a tiebreaker where SMU won 7-4.

In singles, the Mustangs dropped just one set to complete the 4-0 sweep of Oral Roberts. Steinhausen earned his 10th win of season with a 6-2, 6-1 win on line three. Redelijk took care of business, 6-2, 6-4 on court five and Huntley Allen earned a 6-2, 6-4 win on line five. John Zisette and Liam Krall were up a set when the match was clinched.

The Mustangs move to 10-7 on the season including 8-2 at home. Next up, the Mustangs wrap up the homestand as they face No. 37 San Diego on Thursday and Lamar on Friday.
