WICHITA, Kan. (SMU) – SMU men's tennis dropped a 4-1 road match to No. 34 Wichita State on Friday afternoon at the Coleman Tennis Complex.

""Tough loss," said head coach Grant Chen. "We need to get off to better starts in both singles and doubles. We got better as the match went on but need to start sets better. Three guys won second sets to give us chances."

In the rematch of an earlier meeting this season at the SMU Tennis Complex, the Shockers took an early lead with a win in doubles. Huntley Allen and Clarke Wilson teamed up for the Mustangs to win, 6-3 on line three. Wichita took courts one and two to clinch the point. On line two, Juan Jose Bianchi and Tomas Vaise fell, 6-2. No. 72 Murkel Dellien and Marius Frosa defeated Caleb Chakravarthi and Jan-Simon Vrbsky, 6-3 on line one.

The Mustangs began to battle back in the match on each of the remaining four courts. Liam Krall was the lone Mustang winner in the first set and went to a tiebreaker to decide match two. Krall won the tiebreaker, 7-4, to put the Mustangs on the board.

Vaise and Wilson responded by forcing third sets on courts two and four respectively. One set away from a loss, Vrsbky forced a tiebreaker to extend the match on court five and won, 8-6.

With three third sets in the works, the Shockers closed the door with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win over Wilson on court four sealing the win.  Vaise was all square at four apiece in the final set when the match ended.

Wichita State moves to 13-5 on the season with a 3-1 record in the conference. The Mustangs fall to 13-12 on the season.
