DALLAS (SMU) – SMU women's basketball head coach Toyelle Wilson announced the additions of Keyanna Warthen and Savannah Wilkinson to the 2021-22 roster. Warthen played four seasons at Indiana, while Savannah Wilkinson played three seasons at Florida State.
Warthen played in more than 100 games during her career with the Hoosiers. She scored a career-high 11 points as a freshman against Arkansas State, and scored a season-high eight points against Wisconsin as a senior. The Hoosiers advanced to the Elite 8 in the 2021 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, and advanced to the second round of the 2019 tournament. Indiana won the WNIT during Warthen's freshman season.
"Keyanna will add immediate experience, athleticism, and strength to our backcourt," said Wilson. "She is a guard who can play both sides of the ball and knows what it takes to win. The Mustang family will love the passion and energy she brings on the court. She will be a perfect fit here."
A native of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Warthen became Ft. Lauderdale High School's all-time leading scorer with 1,820 points. She averaged 20.3 points during her senior season, leading the squad to a 24-5 record before losing in the regional final. In 2017, she was named the Miami Herald Girls' 9A-7A Player of the Year. After her junior season, she was named to the Class 7A All-State Second Team, was a district championship. In 2016, after her sophomore season, Warthen was named the Orlando Sun Sentinel Class 8A-7A-6A Player of the Year.
Wilkinson played in 14 games last year for the Seminoles after returning from a season-ending foot injury suffered early in her junior season. Primarily a guard, the 6-0, London native played in the low post as a sophomore, filling the void for the injury-plagued Seminoles.
"We are incredibly happy to have "Sav" join our family. She is competitive, intelligent, brings international experience, and a high-level player that can play different positions on the floor. The impact that she will have goes beyond the basketball court and I can't wait for our team and the community to see how she changes our program. She will impact the school and program forever. I can't wait to get her here."
She has played in more than 70 games over three seasons, including all 33 games as a sophomore. Wilkinson was twice named to the ACC All-Academic team, and was selected to the 2019 Arthur Ashe Jr. Scholar Second Team. She also won the 2017-18 Golden Torch Award for Academics.
The duo joins Notre Dame transfer Amirah Abdur-Rahim. Abdur-Rahim played in eight games as a freshman before coming to the Hilltop.
