LAST TIME OUT
SMU put together a solid outing at the Longhorn Invitational on Saturday, April 24. The Mustangs gathered three second place finishes over No. 10 Alabama and (RV) Notre Dame in A-Final races, plus a first-place victory over (RV) Tulsa and Oklahoma in the Second Varsity 4+ B-Final competition. SMU won all three of its heats in the Varsity 8+ boats to set them up well for the finals.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Sacramento State has competed three times this season. The Hornets won all three races against Saint Mary's including a time of 6:39.8 in the varsity eight. The Hornets gathered wins in the V8 and 2V8 over Gonzaga and beat out USC in the 2V8 at the Dexter Lake Invite on April 24. On May 1, the Hornets picked up three wins at the Sacramento State Invitational posting a first-place time of 6:46.5 in the varsity eight boat. Sacramento State's varsity eight was named AAC Boat of the Week twice this season.
Temple has been involved in seven competitions this year. The Owls began the season against Rutgers notching one second place finish in the V8. In the Murphy Cup, the Second Varsity Eight took home bronze against Penn and Drexel with a time of 6:58.10 and also another bronze medal in the V8+ at the 6:52.90 mark. The Owls swept La Salle and George Mason in every boat on April 10. Temple picked up four top three wins in the Kelly Cup. The Owls also saw some progress in its final races at the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta and against Princeton.
Tulsa took on Alabama, Minnesota, Tennessee, and Clemson in the Cardinal Invitational on March 13. The Golden Hurricane took second in the Varsity 8 + with a time of 6:24.687 ahead of Minnesota and took second place in four other races. The Golden Hurricane took on Central Oklahoma and Kansas State last weekend, gathering a first-place finish over Kansas State in the 2V8+ for its only win that day. The Golden Hurricane posted a top mark in B Final at Longhorn Invitational on April 24. Most recently the Golden Hurricane captured the Lawless Cup with four top marks over Creighton on May 1.
UCF has been involved in five events this year. The Knights swept its season opener against Jacksonville and Stetson on March 20. At the UVA Invite, UCF picked up eight wins on the weekend. UCF won eight more events at its home Sunshine State Invite. The Knights first V8 posted a time of 7:31.6 and finished at the 8:08.0 mark in the first V4 to win each race. The Knights won three events on Lake Pickett against Miami. In the last event UCF gathered third at the Lake Wheeler Invite finishing behind No. 13 Duke and (RV) Clemson.
TOP-20
SMU opened the 2021 season by coming in the POCOCK USROWING/CRCA preseason rankings at No. 20. The Mustangs have since moved their way up as far as No. 11 this year.

SMU will look to secure a berth in the NCAA Championships held in Sarasota, Florida May 28-30.
