U20 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS LIVE STREAM
 
DALLAS (SMU) - SMU sophomore Funminiyi Olajide was selected to represent Great Britain at the  U-20 European Athletic Championships. Olajide competes in the long jump qualifiers at the Championships on Saturday July 17 from Tallinn, Estonia.
 
Olajide hits the long jump pit on Saturday at 3:50 a.m. central time and 11:50 a.m. in Estonia.  The top 12 athletes move on Sunday's long jump final slated for 9:50 a.m. CT / 5:50 p.m. EEST.
 
The Thurrock, England native is ranked 12^th in Europe in the long jump for U-20 competitors and ranks 30th in the world according to the World Athletics Rankings.
 
On the national stage, Olajide earned a spot at the 2021 British Athletics Championships earlier this summer and finished in eighth. Prior to her collegiate career, she placed in sixth at the British Athletics Indoor Championships in 2020 with a top jump of 6.14m. Olajide won the English U-17 championships in the long jump back in 2018.
 
Olajide native enters her sophomore season at SMU in the fall after a breakthrough freshman campaign. During the shortened Indoor season, Olajide posted the second-best triple jump performance in program history with her 6.17m showing. She placed first in both the meets she competed in.
 
In the outdoor season, Olajide again moved into the record books with the second-best outdoor long jump at SMU thanks to 6.30m jump.  At the AAC Outdoor Championships, Olajide took home bronze in the long jump.  She finished off her first year on the Hilltop with a qualification for the NCAA West Regional.
