TULSA, Okla. (SMU)
– No. 12 SMU played to its third double overtime game of the season, where they found their first loss of the fall slate to No. 7 Tulsa. The home team tallied the game-winner with seven seconds remaining on Wednesday night at Hurricane Stadium.

The Mustangs (5-1-2, 2-1-0 AAC) battled the Golden Hurricane (8-0-0, 3-0-0 AAC) during regulation and through the first 10-minute overtime period to push the contest into double overtime. The physical contest saw 33 total fouls as the top-15 teams competed to stay the only undefeated team in The American.

Papa Ndoye put the Mustangs on the board first with a header over the Tulsa keeper's head during the 16th minute of play. The shot was set up by Gabriel Costa, who received a chipped pass from Harvey Castro, before the senior sent a cross from the left side of the box into perfect position to find Ndoye's head.

The Golden Hurricane responded in almost identical fashion in the 35th as Hunter Rooks and Ben Barkley connected to cross the ball into Alex Meinhard, who headed the ball just past Cole Johnson.

After a scoreless second half of regulation, the contest saw two shots on goal from SMU and one from Tulsa. The second half saw one from the Golden Hurricane before a shot from Meinhard went in off a rebound with 7.4 seconds left on the clock.

Costa led the way with seven shots, including three on goal, while Ndoye finished with four shots, including his one on goal. Keeper Cole Johnson finished with three saves, including one that kept the contest tied during the first overtime period.

SMU is back in action on Sunday, October 3 as they face Temple for the second time this season, this time at Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium. Action is set to begin at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
