DALLAS (SMU) — No. 3 SMU Men's Soccer won 3-0 against UIW at Washburne Stadium on Monday.
A dominant showing where the Mustangs outshot the Cardinals 21 to four, the goals came from
Stephan Soghomonian,
Mukisa Emmanuel and
Enzo Panozzo.
Soghomonian opened the scoring with his third goal of the season, Emmanuel posted his fifth goal of the season, while
Enzo Panozzo netted his second.
The conductors of the goals were
Ryder Balch, who made his second assist for SMU, and
Ryan Clanton-Pimentel, who recorded his second of the season.
SMU is undefeated with a 5-0-1 record going into Atlantic Coast Conference play, having scored 19 goals while only allowing two.
How It Went
SMU took charge of the game from the first minute, outshooting the Cardinals six to one in the first 20 minutes of the match.
The Mustangs opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 21
st minute.
Milton Lopez was fouled inside the box while battling for a cross and
Stephan Soghomonian converted the penalty with a strong shot through the center.
SMU kept attacking and it was in the 39
th minute that
Mukisa Emmanuel extended the lead to 2-0. The forward was fed by
Ryder Balch whose cross bounced inside the box and was converted by Emmanuel.
The first 45 minutes ended with the Mustangs' 2-0 lead.
The hosts resumed their ruthless offense in the second half, finding their third goal in the 13 minutes into the period.
Ryan Clanton-Pimentel served a ball into the box from a free kick and
Enzo Panozzo was there to head the ball into the net in the 58
th minute for the Mustangs' third goal.
Emmanuel won a penalty for the Mustangs in the 73
rd minute and stepped up to take it himself. His attempt hit the crossbar.
The Mustangs kept attacking, but the scoreline remained 3-0 after 90 minutes for SMU's win.
