PITTSBURGH (SMU) — No. 7 SMU Men's Soccer won 3-1 at Pitt in its Atlantic Coast Conference Opener on Friday.

The Mustangs won with goals from Jaylinn Mitchell, Stephan Soghomonian and Villads Landsperg. Mitchell scored his second goal of the season, Soghomonian scored his fourth while Landsperg scored his first goal for SMU.

Mukisa Emmanuel assisted Soghomonian's goal to record his first assist of the season, while Noah Holmstrøm made his first assist for SMU for Landsperg's goal.

SMU showed incisive offense in transition, outshooting the Panthers 14-8 while having only 38% possession of the ball.

The Mustangs remain undefeated with a 6-0-1 record. Kevin Hudson's squad has scored 22 goals while only allowing three after seven matches.

How It Went
The hosts had more possession at the start of the game, but the Mustangs balanced the contest by winning the ball high up the field and taking on chances.

SMU found a breakthrough in the 29^th minute when Jaylinn Mitchell collected a cleared ball just outside of the box and dribbled past two defenders before slotting the ball into the bottom right corner of the net to grab the 1-0 lead.

Both teams saw multiple half chances following Mitchell's goal, but the scoreline remained 1-0 at the halftime break.

Pitt took charge of the start of the second half, taking on multiple attempts, but SMU's defense stood tall.

The Mustangs grew back into the game, and it was Stephan Soghomonian who found the back of the net for SMU's second goal in the 62^nd minute.

Mukisa Emmanuel poached the ball off a Pitt defender and let the ball roll to Soghomonian, who shot it first-time with his weaker left foot to make it 2-0.

The momentum shifted to SMU's side as they kept the ball at Pitt's side and eventually found the third goal in the 77^th minute.

Noah Holmstrøm won a fifty-fifty ball inside the penalty, heading the ball into the mouth of Pitt's goal, where Villads Landsperg pounced on the ball to score and head the Mustangs' third goal.

Pitt reduced the deficit to 3-1 in the 89^th minute.

The final whistle blew with SMU taking all three points home.

SMU are now 1-1-0 against Pitt all-time.
Jaylinn Mitchell scored his third ACC play goal; two of the goals came against Pitt (2024 and 2026).
Mitchell has made seven goal contributions in the first seven games of the season. He scored two goals and made five assists.
Stephan Soghomonian scored his fourth goal of the season and 18^th goal in his SMU career.
Villads Landsperg scored his first goal for SMU and his second college-career goal.

This is SMU's first ACC Opener win.
This is the first time Pitt has allowed three or more goals at home since they fell 3-2 to James Madison in 2023.
