LUBBOCK, Texas (SMU) - Whitney Williams won her section of the 400 meter race, three Mustangs finished in the top 10 of the mile and the team totaled five personal bests at the Red Raider Open on Friday in Lubbock.  

"We gained momentum with another round of personal bests by five women," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "A number of women were so close it hurts a bit. Regardless, the team as a whole is in a good place two weeks into the season." 

Olivia Dobson posted a personal best in her first shot put event of the season. She threw for a distance of 14.12 meters, which was good enough for ninth place and making it to finals in a field of 24 competitors.  

"I was very happy to come away with a PR," Dobson said. "The winter has been tough for me trying to stay fit with a small ankle injury, so I'm just grateful I was able to compete and have consistent throws each round. I can't wait to see what's next!" 

For the sprinters, Maykayla Jackson ran a personal best in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.82. In the Invitational 60 meter, Jada Laye placed 10th with a time of 7.73. Laye described the race leaving her "frustrated but still hungry". She was followed closely by Raelyn Roberson, who posted a time of 7.77 -- just .01 off last weekend's PR. 

Freshman Emily Waller walked away from the 200 meter race with a new personal best time of 26.86, and Whitney Williams won the B Section 400 meter race with a time of 54.53. 

Madison Savoy ran the 600 placing 11th with a personal best of 1:26.91. Teammates Mackenzie Montandon and Waller also ran the race placing 17th and 18th. 

"Since the 600 is kind of an in between event, I thought I'd just have fun with it going into this meet and not stress too much about it," Savoy said. "I'm satisfied with a PR, but I know I'm capable of a lot more." 

Mia Olsen posted a PR for the distance squad today in the 3k with a time of 10:17.81 -- good enough for second. Kaitlyn Gearin won the event with a time of 10:16.14. Maddie Hulcy also placed in the top-5 for the Mustangs in fourth with a time of 10:28.04. 

The Mustangs' next meet is the Charlie Thomas Invitational at Texas A&M on Feb. 5.
