Day Three Scores
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. (SMU) – Junior
Nathan Petronzio and senior
Noah Goodwin topped the score card in the final round of the Southwestern Invitational for the SMU men's golf team.
American Conference Freshman of the Year Petronzio completed the last day in Malibu with a two-over 74, bringing his final score to one-over 215, good for a 13th-place ranking. An under-four first round propelled Petronzio through the week's competition, keeping him within striking distance of a medal finish. The junior's -10 performance at par-five holes tied for the best in the tournament with USC's Krando Nishiba, hitting par or better on all twelve par-five holes played. Petronzio's standout performance at par fives included an eagle on a second-round 15
th hole.
Goodwin was -2 heading into the 17
th hole, but then carded a triple that pushed him back over par. The American Conference Player of the Year ended the day +1, rounding out the tournament with a three-over 219, and closing the final round tied for 27
th. Â
No. 3 Arizona State led the 12-team field with a 30-under-par performance brought on by a -12 day for the Sun Devils in the final round. No. 7 Pepperdine took second place at 17 under, and No. 21 Washington claimed third at eight under.
The Mustangs completed the final round of the Southwestern Invitational tied for tenth with San Jose State at 38 over, with a final stoke tally of 902. SMU returns to action on Feb. 21, when they head to Palm Desert, Calif. for the opening round of The Prestige.
