Day Two Results
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif (SMU) – Sophomore
Nathan Petronzio ended the second round of the Southwestern Invitational with a one-over 73, good for a 161 total through two rounds and placing him tied for ninth in a field comprised of the nation's top collegiate amateurs.
Petronzio, the 2021 American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, struck two birdies on the fourth and sixth holes, followed by an eagle on a 474-yard-par-5 15
th to keep him within a top-three position throughout the day, until a bogey on the 17
th hole dropped him four spots. Petronzio is one of 19 players in a field of 64 that has hit an eagle through the first two rounds, and never held lower than a top-ten position throughout the day.
Senior
Noah Goodwin followed just behind Petronzio on the score card, also posting a 1-over 73 on the day and a 146 total through the first two rounds. Goodwin hit four birdies through the day's 18 and averaged par down the back nine, but was unable to overcome carding a triple on an eighth-hole par three. The American Conference Golfer of the Year enters the final day of the tournament tied for 32
nd.
Prescott Butler finished his day on a high note, hitting par or better on the final seven holes. He carded a +9 on the second round.
Junior
Ollie Osborne withdrew from the day's competition due to illness. His status for day three remains undetermined.
SMU enters the final round of the Southwestern Invitational searching for a footing in the standings, currently tallying a 27-over 603. The Mustangs enter day three tied for 11
th with UNLV, and 14 strokes behind tenth-place San Jose State.
