Day Two Scores
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (SMU) – American Conference Golfer of the Year
Noah Goodwin led the Mustangs' efforts on day two of the Southern Highlands Collegiate, who as a team closed the round with a ten-under 566 good for eighth place.
Goodwin shot a flawless second round, carding a season-high five-under 67 with five birdies on the day and finishing tied for 11
th with teammate
Nathan Petronzio. The senior's performance tied for the second-lowest score of the day, second to only UNLV's Caden Fioroni's 66. Goodwin birdied all four of the course's par five holes, compiling a five-under tally on par fives through the first two rounds and averaging 4.38 strokes, good for the third-best score on par fives through the opening two rounds.
Petronzio shot par through eight of the front nine, entering the turn plus one and finishing the remainder of the round with a clean sheet. Petronzio notched two birdies on the sixth and ninth holes to end the day back below par, with a five-under 139 to tie with Goodwin for 11
th place.
Justin Thompson took one stroke off his opening round, shooting par or better on 17 holes on the way to a two-under 70. Through 54 holes, Thompson totals a 3-under 141, leaving him tied for 22
nd.
The Mustangs advanced one spot in the standings, finishing out the second round in eighth place, and one stroke ahead of No. 29 UNM. No. 1 Oklahoma leads the field for the second consecutive day, seven strokes ahead of second-place Texas.
The Mustangs open the final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate for SMU on Tuesday, with a tee time of 11 a.m., paired with UNLV and UNM.
