No. 13 SMU Hosts No. 1 Texas Saturday and Sunday At White Rock Lake

DALLAS (SMU) – The No. 13 SMU rowing team officially begins the spring season this weekend when it hosts No. 1 Texas. The competition against the defending national champions is scheduled to take place Saturday evening and Sunday morning at White Rock Lake in Dallas.
The Mustangs finished the 2021 season ranked 10th in the country in the final poll after placing 11th in their first NCAA Championship. SMU won the American Athletic Conference Championship, winning all four events in the regatta. The victory in the 1V8+ was the second straight conference win in the sport's premier event.
Racing against the Longhorns is slated to begin Saturday at 5 p.m., while Sunday's events are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. This is the first time in program history that SMU has hosted the top-ranked team. The Mustangs prepared for the championship season's opening event with exhibition races against Wisconsin in Florida and Louisville in Dallas.
Last season, SMU competed in the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas. The Mustangs finished second behind Texas in both the 1V8+ and 2V8+ finals of the seven-team event. SMU also swept Iowa in a head-to-head race last year.
Limited free spectator parking is available at White Rock Boathouse (2920 White Rock Road, Dallas, TX 75214).
The White Rock Lake racecourse runs south by southwest from Jackson Point (4311 W Lawther Drive), to the Filter Building adjacent to the boathouse. Recommended viewing sites providing the closest views of the final 500 meters include White Rock Boathouse, the rear of the Filter Building, and the White Rock Lake Trail atop the concrete dam south of the Filter Building.
