Day One Scores
STANFORD, Calif. (SMU) – SMU men's golf team totaled ten strokes below par through day one of The Goodwin, placing the Mustangs two strokes behind No. 14 first-place host Stanford. The Mustangs finished one stroke ahead of No. 9 Washington and No. 11 Georgia Tech.        Â

The Mustangs led the 28-team field on par-five holes, totaling 13 strokes below par, good for a 4.13 stroke average. SMU posted the fourth-best average on par fours, averaging even-par through the first day.
Three eagles on the day, one each from senior
Noah Goodwin, sophomore
Nathan Petronzio, and senior
Justin Thompson, led the field. 24 total birdies was the second-highest team total through the opening round.
Senior
Noah Goodwin headed the Mustangs' efforts, carding a four-under 66 to open the tournament, good for an eighth-place finish. The American Conference Golfer of the Year hit a two-under through the front nine, highlighted by a hole-seven eagle to drive Goodwin's score to four-under. Goodwin hit par or better on 14 holes, notching six birdies.
Petronzio finished the opening round with a three-under 67, placing him tied for 16
th. The sophomore compiled the second-best performance on par fives of the 140-player field, totaling four under with a 3.67 stroke average. The AAC Freshman of the Year hit par or better on 15 holes, including a four-under performance through the front nine to close out day one.
Junior
Ollie Osborne carded a season-low two under 68, hitting par or better on 16 holes and totaling four birdies on the day. A two-under performance on par fours for Osborne was good for the fourth-best performance of the field with a stroke average of 3.80.
Thompson and junior
Tyson Dinsmore both ended the day with a one-under 69. Thompson hit par or better through the back nine, entering the turn with a two-under, followed by an eagle on hole one. Dinsmore, in his spring debut, hit six birdies on the day, and closed the opening round with a one-under performance on the front nine.
Dinsmore opens SMU's day two of The Goodwin with a 10:10 a.m. tee time at hole one of the Stanford Golf Course.
