The SMU Men's golf team resumes its spring campaign on Thursday in the Silicon Valley, as it opens its three-day, 52-hole competition at the par 70, 6,742-yard Stanford Golf Course for The Goodwin.

On day one, the Mustangs are scheduled to open round one at hole 10 between 3:20 and 4:16 p.m. CT.

The Goodwin, previously named the United States Intercollegiate, was renamed in 2014 to honor the late Wally Goodwin, Stanford Hall of Fame coach credited for reviving the men's golf program at Stanford into national prominence. Goodwin passed away last July.

The Field
The 28-team field includes seven of the top-50 teams in the nation, and hosts nine opponents from SMU's most recent tournament appearance at the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Feb. 27.

The field, including No. 51 SMU and No. 14 Stanford, is as follows: No. 57 BYU, No. 85 Cal, No. 136 Cal Poly, No. 93 Colorado, No. 107 Denver, No. 130 Drexel, No. 108 FAU, No. 11 Georgia Tech, Hawai'i-Hilo, Howard, No. 50 Little Rock, No. 80 Long Beach State, No. 147 Miami (OH), No. 45 Nevada, No. 42 Northwestern, No. 36 Oregon, No. 116 Rutgers, No. 61 San Diego, No. 54 San Francisco, No. 70 San Jose State, No. 83 Saint Mary's, No. 56 UC Davis, No. 72 UCLA, No. 9 Washington, No. 91 Washington State and No. 171 Wofford. Through the opening two rounds, the Mustang lineup will be grouped with Little Rock, Nevada, and San Francisco. Day three pairings and tee times will be based on team standings after the opening two rounds.

The Lineup
SMU will be represented at The Goodwin by seniors Noah Goodwin and Justin Thompson, juniors Ollie Osborne and Tyson Dinsmore, and sophomore Nathan Petronzio.

Goodwin had the Mustangs' best finish in last season's edition of The Goodwin, tying for fourth at -7 after carding a 67, 66, and even-par 70 through three rounds. In March 2021, Goodwin went a combined -16 in three events, with eight of his nine competitive rounds being even-par or better.

The American Conference Golfer of the Year enters the opening round of The Goodwin after notching a six-under 210 at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas. A season-best five-under on day two of the tournament propelled Goodwin ahead in the standings to a tied-for-sixteenth finish. Goodwin's birdies on seven of the final two rounds' eight par five holes contributed to an eight-under total (4.33 avg.) on par fives throughout the tournament, the third-best of the field.

Petronzio's one-over finish in the final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate placed the AAC Freshman of the Year tied for 21st. Petronzio closed day three with a three under through the front nine, then hit plus four through the remainder of the round to end the tournament with a four-under 212. The American Conference Freshman of the Year has earned two top-25 individual finishes this season, earning a season-best tied-for-13th finish to open the Mustangs' spring season at the Southwestern Invitational.

Mustangs At The Goodwin
The Mustangs, making their seventh appearance at The Goodwin, have notched three top-ten finishes in the tournament, including winning a share of the team title in 2015 off top-five finishes from Bryson Dechambeau and Austin Smotherman.
