Day Three Scores

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (SMU) – A two-over 290 final round for the SMU men's golf team at the Southern Highlands Collegiate ended in an eight-under 856, good for a ninth-place finish.

Senior Noah Goodwin ended day three with a one-under 71, rounding out the tournament with a six-under 210. A season-best five-under on day two, hitting birdie on all four par fives propelled the American Conference Player of the Year ahead in the standings to a tied-for-sixteenth finish. Goodwin's birdies on seven of the final two rounds' eight par five holes contributed to an eight-under total (4.33 avg.) on par fives throughout the tournament, the third-best of the field.

Sophomore Nathan Petronzio's one-over finish in the final round placed the AAC Freshman of the Year tied for 21st. Petronzio opened the day with a three under through the front nine, then hit plus four through the remainder of the round to end the tournament with a four-under 212.

Senior Justin Thompson totaled one-under through the front nine and carded three birdies through the third day, but ended with a two-over 74 to finish the tournament at one under with a 215, good for a 32^nd-place finish. Thompson's 37 pars through 54 holes was the third-highest figure of the field.

SMU totaled 13 strokes below par on par five holes (4.78 avg.), sixth-best against the field.

No. 1 Oklahoma completed its first-place finish in the Southern Highlands Collegiate with a 38-under 826, seven strokes ahead of second-place No. 5 Pepperdine. OU's Patrick Welsh claimed the individual title, carding a 14-under 202. SMU's ninth-place finish falls in behind eight top-30-ranked programs.

The Mustangs continue their spring season on March 24^th, when they travel to Palo Alto, California for The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford.
